As far as I understand a preferred walk on is still an offer from the school. Something along the lines of "we would really like for you to play for us but we don't quite have a scholarship available". Whereas a walk on is you're a freshman on campus and just walk to Plough's office and ask if you can join the team. I had a roommate freshman year who did that and actually went to a couple of practices before basically being cut.

There's a difference between putting in a back up when a game is out of hand one way or the other versus a dual QB system. I have no problems pulling a starter once the game has been decided.

I'm not a particularly huge fan of dual QB systems. Some teams have found success with it recently, but I just don't think it's the future of college football. I think 69 brought up a great point in that it will make it harder to recruit QBs in the long run if we're running with multiple QBs.

I've said before (probably too many times) that I would just prefer a QB with a complete skill set. I'm not saying that they have to be an elite passer and runner because if they were they would be at an Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, etc. but today's game has shifted towards having QBs that can scramble or even take designed runs.

Now obviously highlights are only going to show... highlights, but Wrighster's tape at least gave us looks that he has an arm and can use his legs to extend plays or go for yards. It will definitely be interesting to see how Plough evaluates our current QB situation.

Who knows what kind of chance he has to start, but if there was a time for a true freshman to make a move for starter it would be with a new regime and a new playbook with everyone starting on the same page. Getting to campus early does show that he wants to get to work ASAP.

Sounds like Damon Wrighster is going to be graduating high school early and will be on campus at the start of the year.

Plough is bringing in Austin Taylor from Cal as an unspecified assistant defensive coach. Was defensive quality control last season at Cal.

As DavisAggie said, ranking recruiting classes is almost meaningless... especially so at the FCS level. They used 247's star ratings to rate the classes. I include those ratings while listing our recruits, but they lack any real kind of objectivity. Ulonzo Gilliam and Lan Larison were both 2 star players in high school and Keelan Doss was unranked for instance.

We do have RBs, but I'm all for loading up for the post LL competition. That and Plough's entire schtick is scoring fast and frequently which means we'll need a ton of depth on the offensive side of the ball.

Wrighster's twitter account still says UC Davis commit but I guess we'll see what happens

I updated the list with the players that they put out individual tweets for and it doesn't line up with the players released on the athletics site. The only consistent missing player is Wrighster which would be a big disappointment if he didn't sign. They initially released the info saying 11 players signed and then updated it later.

For what it's worth, Mike Cody has updated his Twitter profile to just say UCD OL coach and he was retweeting all of today's signings so looks like we may be retaining him... Just not at OC

Pretty amazing that we didn't have a single de-commit with a new HC coming in! Looks like a great class so far! I'll get everything updated in just a little bit.
