  • Graduation cut short, 7 taken to the hospital
What was the thought process to the football stadium from the Pavilion? Was there money to ICA for the football stadium versus money from the Pavilion to campus rec?

Davis High on Friday with a turf field ran a long ceremony at Brown stadium without the same issues. Really not sure of the thought process that made this happen.

Name Image and Likeness is just a different act; that will keep the top programs on top and gap the poorer programs. Unlike the NFL and revenue sharing the top programs use money to create moats and walls to keep other programs from being their peers.
  • WLAX to Pac12
Waterpolo both men and women were also D I before the transition. The men were in the WWPA but not sure if the women were in the BWC from the start I do remember the women's team playing at Schaal in the full NCAA tourney and winning a game or two. That was a very good very team!

Why? Which UCD teams can compete in a Power 5 school and be respectful?
  • 'Elite' UC Davis mascot ousted, replaced with cow
Here are the results from the Aggie.

The “Eliminate the Portion of CEI [Campus Expansion Initiative] Fee that makes Undergraduates Pay Over $200 to Fund ICA Athletic Scholarships” measure failed to meet the necessary 20% voter threshold required for fee referenda to pass with 78.46% of voters in favor.

The “Eliminate the Portion of the SASI [Student Activities and Services Initiative] Fee that makes Undergraduates Pay Over $300 to fund ICA Operating Expenses” measure also failed to meet the necessary 20% voter threshold with 79.12% of voters in favor.

Finally, the Consideration of changing the UC Davis mascot from the mustang to a cow passed with 73.01% of the vote and is now subject to administrative review.

Both sides are claiming victory. Cutting PE was a STUPID act by the school and may come back to hurt ICA. It hurts the general students not to have access to PE classes that can help them. Now campus rec charges for everything with instruction and the ARC is very crowded in general. It will be interesting to see if the students move on these numbers for next year.
  • 'Elite' UC Davis mascot ousted, replaced with cow
The undergrads for the last 10 years or so have[ b]LOVED[/b] the cow. The times I have been on campus the cows at the dairy barn are the #1 attraction and photo op.
I remember long ago when the Stanford undergrads voted to change the mascot from the Indians to the Robber Barons. I thought that was a bold and accurate statement of their past.
Horses have passed away from the public's eye. I like cows, better than a stallion named Gunrock.
  • UCD wins Big West Men's Golf Tournament
Kudos to Coach Cy and the team. A huge win and good luck at regionals!!!
  • Dwayne Shaffer's contract extension
Attendance is good. Not great like the UCSB or Cal Poly but for day games very good. The men's team tried in the past to play UC Irvine at Aggie stadium and it did not create a good game. Hopefully Dwayne will have another great team with above average attendance.
  • Spring Practice
Seems the moves have left the sports information department gutted. I miss a more complete wrap up of the games, but some events have a robo writer with no humanity and others like the lax story so bare it is not worth the time for me to read the story. The headline for the Lax story was " Aggies fall and are short handed." At no point did I find out the reason for the reason why the Aggies were short handed. Was it red card (s) or yellow card (s)? Was it COVID or something else. I like to follow teams during the year, but the lack of substance in the articles make it impossible. I get better information from Aggie Sports Talk, than the department.
  • MBB Off-season 2022
Do you think they are testing the waters with the NIL out there? Transferring could cost them academically, as not all classes will slot perfectly. Going into the Portal is one thing, enrolling at a new school is another.

What would or should Les or Rocko say?
  • Best prep program that also accels at academics
Tough to know what the best path is. I believe in a multi-sport track, but in some sports tennis, basketball and soccer this may not be the best plan in 2022. For football I still believe in doing other sports, track is a great sport for every football player.

My best advice is to let the grandson know where the current passion is and follow that season by season.

In high school I opened my local high school gym on Saturdays and that was my Saturday job from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. I swept the floors 7-8 am and again 5-6 pm/. Kurt Rambis came by to shoot his 500 hundred free throws and play. He was SO good. Hard to believe he was only a white banger in the NBA.

    Good luck to your family!

All who have served thank you.

If you believe the grandson wants to play high level ball, then it's AAU ball that you need to re-search. My cousin's son is in Atlanta and devotes a crazy amount of time and money. The 14-year-old plays AAU travel ball and will go 12-14 week-end series including show case events. Twice a week private coaching for speed, twice a week a strength coach and twice a week a shooting coach. This is crazy but is the norm for much of the South. Not sure what Sacramento has going but I would think this level of development is not that unusual and more important than high school ball.

Granite Bay is public co-ed and a very good school. the Grizzles were better than Jesuit this year. Modesto Valley Christian will get more games in every year and more play-off experience.over a high school career.
