  • Finally, a Business Major
Movielover is right about what was the old thought process of research versus practical job skills..

I think as higher ed problems compound and enrollment declines schools are going to fight to maintain high enrollment or high rejection rates. The move to have UCD sponsor a business major is designed to have a higher rejection rate.
  • Tara Vanderveer retiring!
20 years ago I was at the Stanford campus in the summer. Maples Pavilion had an unexpected issue and was closed. aTara Vandeveer must have had a summer camp going on. Her camp was moved outside to a parking lot with portable hoops. I watched her run camp for almost 90 minutes. She can coach and teach hoop. She was funny, had a ton of energy. Hopefully the campers enjoyed it as much as I did.
  • DEI--What the pictures lack?d
Us old folks are invisible. When I looked at the pictures and believed pictures were curated to form a mosaic. However, the thought of age as in important part of diversity was excluded. Many cultures look for the wisdom of age and life experiences, but the UCD athletic department may not.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
NCagalum. You are spot on. Saturday would be a great day. The NFL controls Sunday. If the NCAA wants/needs more money then make a great business choice versus a stupid one. I guess this goes to show why the BCS is no longer controlled by the NCAA!
  • Doss To Chargers
Tough life for Doss. But Kudos to him for staying the course. Maybe 2024 will be his break through year!!
  • Paul Shelton heads back to Tennessee, HS HC
Bummer. Paul is a wonderful person. Coaching football is hard. I hope his next chapter is positive for him and his family!
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
CMT you make. a great point but polls help drive the interest for the fans. For many looking at polls means learning the roster on the team, knowing a team's schedule and history. With the FCS playoffs the cream will rise and. true champion will be crowned. But polls for myself keep my interest up before season and early season.
  • Happy Thanksgiving, Aggie Sports Talk!
My time was in the late 70's early 80's, I remember all of that. Plus a 4-6 pm Botany lab on Weds before Thanksgiving walking across an empty campus to the bus station. The tule fog so thick on campus and on 80 and 5. The coffee house smelled wonderful and had so many discarded Aggies strewn about.
I loved the bb games at upper Hickey, watching Hamiltiion biting a white towel and then throwing it up when he was upset. The crowd and band were so LOUD! Upper Hickey so hot but outside more tule fog. Usually after the game I would go to Shields to study late in the reading room. I had an amazing time at UCD. Happy for these memories plus a slew more and all the wonderful folks that I crossed paths with.
  • Lan Larison named Big Sky offensive player of the year
Kudos to Larison. A well deserved honor. He exemplifies Aggie Pride. Bummer that he was injured this season. His intensity on every running play excited me as a fan. Hard to bring down, elusive, with great field vision puts him among the Aggie great run-ing backs
  • 2023 Men's Water Polo
Ouch--Ags lose in the semi to the #1 seed UCI 11-10.

Again the Ags let this one slip away, as they were up 10-8 at the 5+ minute mark in the 4th. UCI comes back and strings 3 goals to win in regulation.

It is good to have the Big West Conference sponsor Men's polo. The parity inside the conference is super and most of the league games were one goal games.

Ags have a great coach and talent, looking forward to next year and a chance for them to win the conference crown.
  • 2023 Men's Water Polo
Aggies live to fight another day. Watching the game, I felt as if the officials called the game different against the AGS resulting in them having 14 exclusions to Long Beaches 8. An extra 6 power players puts a tremendous pressure on the goalie and the defense.

The Age have enough talent on this team to win the next 2 and advance to the NCAA tourney. What I felt was not good for the Aggies in this game. was the offense play First the flow in setting up the front court was sloppy and better passing can really help them tomorrow. This lack of flow resulted in poor shot selection ( bad angles) and the shot poor shot execution. I felt as if the AGS did not have a game plan in how to beat the goal.

I think the defense was good even when the officials gave the Beach an extra 6 power plays.

I do NOT know enough about UCI to make a prediction, but the Aggies have strong individuals. IF the Ads beat UCI they win the tourney. Tough turn around with an 11:30 am start. GO AGS!!!
  • 2023 WEEK 12: CAUSEWAY
Aggie Stadium this morning looked great. Signage is up. KCRA was there with the assistant coaches and a few members of cheer. I hope many in the region will follow the game. Have to work then; to get Thanksgiving off; but I'm hoping for a great Aggie win with a good television audience. I am hoping that the TV coverage will have improved since the Southern Utah game.
  • 2023 Men's Water Polo
The first BIG West men’s water polo tournament kicks off this Thursday at UCSD.

The Ags started off the season ranked #1 in the conference. A good start but several poor showings at a tournament plus losing 2 conference games have the Ags seeded 4th in the tourney.

    - UC Irvine is the No. 1 seed after going 4-1 in conference play and 15-8 overall. The No. 6 nationally ranked Anteaters clinched the first-ever regular season title. The second seed was secured by UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos, Tritons, and Aggies were all knotted at 3-2 in league play when tie breaking procedures determined seeding for the championship. UC San Diego (14-12, 3-2 BW) claims the third spot and will take on six-seeded Cal State Fullerton at 4:30 p.m. to kick off the quarterfinal round. The Titans (16-14, 0-5 BW) are in their inaugural season of competition in the pool. When these two teams met in the regular season, the Tritons bested the Titans, 16-9.

The No. 4 seed UC Davis played against No. 5 seed Long Beach State. UC Davis edged the Beach 9-8 when these two sides clashed earlier this year. The advancing team of the No. 4 UC Davis seed and No. 5 Long Beach State seed matchup will take on top-seeded UC Irvine in the opening semifinal round on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m. Whoever emerges victorious between No. 3 UC San Diego and No. 6 Cal State Fullerton plays No. 2 UC Santa Barbara at 1:30 p.m. to conclude semi final play.

The final quarterfinal matchup at 6 p.m. sees No. 4 seed UC Davis against No.

My take is that they have a challenging but doable road to make the championship which will then be a toss up. A possible approach to beating the Beach and to set them up well for the semi is to make some changes that will affect both games. The Beach will be tough again in So-Cal, I for one believe that Norcal teams are still at a disadvantage when it comes to playing So -Cal teams in So-Cal. The Ag players need to be in a grind mode and be prepared for 4 full quarters. Several of their key losses occurred with 4 quarter and OT melt downs. Keeping a good rotation of field players and perhaps subbing their star goalie to give a longer half-time could be used to help the team for the final push or OT. Additionally, the top seeded Anteaters will be watching the game and a new rotation including the goalie will give them a lot to think about. Many polo players prepare for a specific goalie and develop scenarios of how they will shoot in certain situations. Showing a back up goalie might give the Anteaters something to think about. Any new wrinkles on 6-5 even if they are not used in the semi will give the Eaters something to mull on.

Many of the Aggie players have been on conference winning tourney teams and I think this will be an edge when they face UCI. Confidence and the willingness and ability to grind can be the Aggies edge. IT would be a great feather in the Aggies cap to win the first Big West mens waterpolo conference title
  • 2023 Men's Soccer
Kudos to the team and Dwayne. Heartbreak season ending but they had a fine season and the seniors can leave with their heads high.!
  • Cal re-brand
SochorField, I agree the Davis script is super and unique. One word programs are common and the UC clutters the vision and the mind. Davis is some script that should be the school's logo for both academics and athletics.
  • 2023 Men's Water Polo
Bad look for the Aggies to have 4th quarter and overtime failures in the last few tough conference games. I did not follow the games I am not sure what was lacking.
I was hoping for a regular season title for the Age and the tourney title also. Tourney gets you on a ticket to the NCAA's so lets go AGS.
  • 2023 Women's Soccer
Great year-congrats to all the players and the coaches!!
  • 2023 Week 9: UC Davis @ Northern Arizona
    Riveraggie-Nice post
Hopefully the men make the most out of their remaining games to achieve as many goals as possible. NCAA careers fly by and hopefully the upperclassmen make some great plays and great wins on the last part of the season.
Davis has historically been known for upsets and I agree this team really hasn't had a quality upset.
I think it was easier when the regular schedule wasn't as daunting to pull off and upset. I do believe Hawk is right about. having to bring you A game every Saturday in the Big Sky.
  • 2023 Women's Volleyball
Ouch--by far the worse loss of the year. Hopefully Dan and team can rally still nearly half the league season in front of them. Would be great if they have a great second half of the season in league.
  • Doss To Chargers
Kudos to Doss for fighting to play on Sunday. Life is long and I always admire any athlete that will work hard to get the last steps out of their career. I hope he stays healthy and can leave the game on his terms.
