  • Playoff Talk 2024
In that first play-off game at Aggie stadium, I believe that the UCD athletic department purchased 2,500 or so student tickets to pass on to the students. The tickets were first come, first served and given out to current UCD students with a valid student ID. The thoughts being that a full stadium helped the team and the students do support athletics through collected fees.

I do hope that the department does this for any and all home games this year. A rocking student section is good for all!

We have extra costs that are not paid for by the NCAA and the TV contract goes to the NCAA. The NCAA does pay for some of the travel costs for the traveling team, but even at the FCS level this will NOT cover the cost of the travel party to the game. In the past the NCAA has taken some of the gate and I am not sure what the 2024 arrangement is. At play-off games UCD students will have to pay to attend while in the regular season they have free admission.
One way UCD could make money is from local radio and TV ads, but this has NOT happened in the past. There has not been the interest in the department has not found a way to make this happen,
For our school to think about moving up a great game day experience with a sell-out will go a long way in showing support to move to the FBS level. We have a large budget and home championship games are great for the department and good for the school.
  • 2024 Women's Volleyball
    Age win again vs CSUB.

This team has defense and like many other team sports defense travels. A Saturday game at CSUN with the hope that the team patrols the net well again.
  • Hawaii moves to MW, leaving the big west for basketball
Are you sure about volleyball, it might be women's waterpolo?
  • Hawaii moves to MW, leaving the big west for basketball
Hawaii leaving the Big West is a negative for Davis. In many of the Big West Sports the recruits are attracted to the usual twice a career trip to the Island. In some sports softball, volleyball, and women’s water polo the RPI of the conference will be diminished. In swimming the just reconstituted conference championships may fold without Hawaii. With Hawaii having to cover a chunk of the traveling Big West conference travel trip to the Island, to the tune of 1.8 million that could free up money for Hawaii. How much this one domino affects UCD is hard to say.
  • 2024 Women's Volleyball
Currently the AGS RPI is 56 nationally. I cannot remember when we have been higher than this.

    Other Big West schools
    Long Beach is 43rd
    Cal Poly 60th

This week the AGS go to CSUB on Thursday.

Dan Connors has the team on a roll. The conference meet schedule is rugged but I do believe they have a chance to claim the title! GO AGS!
  • 2024 Men's Soccer
What a great day for the Aggies! I hope your daughter and her team enjoy both the game and scrimmage. I think it says volumes that the department is still doing positive outreach.
  • Names on Jerseys
It is Plough's team. He has a HUGE ask to win in 2024! His professional career and families fortune hinge upon to a bunch of 20 something men's choices and performances. I support the coach.
  • Other Games, 2024
Listened to the last half of the Spartan-Hornet game. It was competitive till it wasn't. Not sure if the Hornets were tired, or what but the Spartans just put the game away at the end. Still the game was competitive and Sac state I believe will be a very tough game for us to win.
  • Tim Plough Named New UC Davis Head Football Coach
Welcome back Paul. I was impressed when he was at UCD. Ran into him at a brewhouse in Knoxville and had a lovely talk. A quality man and a great family!!! A great addition to the staff.
  • Finally, a Business Major
Movielover is right about what was the old thought process of research versus practical job skills..

I think as higher ed problems compound and enrollment declines schools are going to fight to maintain high enrollment or high rejection rates. The move to have UCD sponsor a business major is designed to have a higher rejection rate.
  • Tara Vanderveer retiring!
20 years ago I was at the Stanford campus in the summer. Maples Pavilion had an unexpected issue and was closed. aTara Vandeveer must have had a summer camp going on. Her camp was moved outside to a parking lot with portable hoops. I watched her run camp for almost 90 minutes. She can coach and teach hoop. She was funny, had a ton of energy. Hopefully the campers enjoyed it as much as I did.
  • DEI--What the pictures lack?d
Us old folks are invisible. When I looked at the pictures and believed pictures were curated to form a mosaic. However, the thought of age as in important part of diversity was excluded. Many cultures look for the wisdom of age and life experiences, but the UCD athletic department may not.
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
NCagalum. You are spot on. Saturday would be a great day. The NFL controls Sunday. If the NCAA wants/needs more money then make a great business choice versus a stupid one. I guess this goes to show why the BCS is no longer controlled by the NCAA!
  • Doss To Chargers
Tough life for Doss. But Kudos to him for staying the course. Maybe 2024 will be his break through year!!
  • Paul Shelton heads back to Tennessee, HS HC
Bummer. Paul is a wonderful person. Coaching football is hard. I hope his next chapter is positive for him and his family!
  • 2023-24 FCS Playoffs
CMT you make. a great point but polls help drive the interest for the fans. For many looking at polls means learning the roster on the team, knowing a team's schedule and history. With the FCS playoffs the cream will rise and. true champion will be crowned. But polls for myself keep my interest up before season and early season.
  • Happy Thanksgiving, Aggie Sports Talk!
My time was in the late 70's early 80's, I remember all of that. Plus a 4-6 pm Botany lab on Weds before Thanksgiving walking across an empty campus to the bus station. The tule fog so thick on campus and on 80 and 5. The coffee house smelled wonderful and had so many discarded Aggies strewn about.
I loved the bb games at upper Hickey, watching Hamiltiion biting a white towel and then throwing it up when he was upset. The crowd and band were so LOUD! Upper Hickey so hot but outside more tule fog. Usually after the game I would go to Shields to study late in the reading room. I had an amazing time at UCD. Happy for these memories plus a slew more and all the wonderful folks that I crossed paths with.
  • Lan Larison named Big Sky offensive player of the year
Kudos to Larison. A well deserved honor. He exemplifies Aggie Pride. Bummer that he was injured this season. His intensity on every running play excited me as a fan. Hard to bring down, elusive, with great field vision puts him among the Aggie great run-ing backs
