When a recruit is talking to Big Sky teams and you see a Pac 12 offer on the list, 99% of the time the Pac 12 team has dropped them or never extended a "committable" offer. JRK is a good fit for Davis and would be a nice get. UCLA has not been on him since before the 2021 season.

The staff has a real dilemma at QB. TT and Hastings are one dimensional. Imagine that Hastings dominates in practice, but in games he's really limited when the pocket breaks down. To me, Hunter provides the best chance to win despite not being as accurate as Hastings or as mobile as TT.

Davis has 20+ sports and the BWC/MWC deal for UH is a one-timer, as I understand it. MWC teams receive distributions of $3 to $5m from TV. That's not enough to support the investment required to be competitive at that level, even if a rabid fanbase magically appeared. Fresno and SDSU rely on donors, sponsors and the gate. SJSU limps along with duct tape and institutional support.

The math is even a little tougher than that. For the sake of argument let's use the MWC, which sponsors ~ 15 conventional sports. To be just barely competitive in football and cover incremental travel for the other 14 sports that would be forced into the conference would require at least an additional $10m per year of revenue. In this scenario, you would eventually pick up a few bucks from TV but until you get there (typically phased once you join a conference) all you have is the gate. Assuming 6.5 home games, which is generous for an upstart G5 program, you need 30,000 per game at an average price of just over $50. Clearly, the economics here are prohibitive.

Buzz was probably the best pxp guy they have had aside from a couple of the 90.3 kids that actually went on to do it professionally (Hasseltine, Waltz). Marsh loves UCD athletics but is unfortunately not good at play by play. More unfortunate is that he has been the program director at KHTK and able to hire himself for the job.

Is this the first advance sellout since the stadium opener? Good news, but seems a little odd.

Players that drop down often underestimate the talent level at their destination, especially those that did not see much game action at their first stop. Also think Larison took people by surprise by being ready to go as a true freshman.

This is the best roster the school has had and its not close. Still need to find the right fit at QB.

People should listen to DrMike here (and always). Amoah took the job and has not looked back. Cool experience for the Richardson's to spend time together. This roster is built to win big in the fall.

In agreement there. Not suggesting they should build anything crazy. But...the WCC, while a bad comp for Davis, each of those venues is better for hoops than the current version of the Pavilion, by a wide margin. Those schools are also tiny and have limited access to funding. Santa Clara, Gonzaga (obviously) and BYU (in development) have suites and premium seating. USD has a nice expensive functional space and USF, UOP are old, but very good for basketball. The Mountain West is a better comp for UCD. All public schools and most of their facilities are the largest or second largest within about 50 miles. Except for SJSU, they all have premium seating or 10k+ capacity. Many have both. If you look at the concert and entertainment events that Rec Hall hosted as a larger capacity venue versus what they are doing now it is obvious that things are not going well (and I recognize the University has 100 excuses about changing market dynamics to deflect blame).

Great insight. Always wondered if the ICA's subdividing net (which makes the place look pathetic IMO) or structural limitations were the real driving factor behind the lack of a cube. I would be surprised if Maples (or even pre-reno Pauley) has much more clearance than the Pavilion but their retrofit may have added the load capacity and beams to hoist away when not in use. You're spot on regarding the venue -- it was the most forward thinking facility that the campus has ever developed -- and its too bad the many facelifts have resulted in a facility that is not very well suited for anything. They really need a modern space with at least average DI amenities for basketball and the flexibility to modulate between say 5k and 10k seats without looking like a horror show. Curious if that's economic via upper level retrofit on the current site or whether they will eventually build a new arena.

They have always had the outward folding stacks with large gaps in between (remember the big wood stacks?). They should have integrated the seating to the upper walls and folded inward so that the seating could extend to the rafters, without the big gaps between sections. Had this been done on all four sides, they preserve the third level court space and also have an 8,500 seat venue.

Totally hear you. Telescopic seating that folds from the wall into a bowl in the upper deck really should not be prohibitively expensive and won't decrease the functionality of the building. In fact, it would increase capacity for graduation and other events. The combination of facilities management, ICA and the AD has resulted in some curious and short sighted decisions.

Agree. They have done a pretty crummy job on the video boards and upper level seating twice now. The new board looks fine for graduation/concerts but terrible for sporting events.

That thing looks like it will be disorienting. Too bad they couldn't hang a board over center court and put some permanent telescope seating into the upper bowl.

This isn't high school. TT will have the opportunity to compete for the job but "the job" is not to play wildcat and get hit 10+ times each week in the run game. This was what, a five game season, and the Ags end with injuries to two QBs and the starting running back. Each of the three QBs plus the true freshman have things to improve upon.

There were plays to be made in the pass game. HR did not make them today and when he drifts backwards bad things happen. TT has a wealth of potential but is currently a project and not an every down QB. Hastings is good but needs to play faster. Playing without Gilliam is tough. Most of the "seniors" are done, with unceremonious exits thanks to the NCAA. There are a few posters calling for specific freshmen to play -- the guys that learned the system got on the field this year. The ones that did not (except for a couple of injuries) will not be back.

Think the experience is critical for a young defense that will be opening up at Tulsa. There are quite a few freshmen getting good reps.

Poly has cancelled their remaining two games so this will be the last game of the year for UCD.
