  • UCD students file class-action lawsuit over PE elimination
I thought the MU was just spiffed up, how did it go backwards? Are there any links to what's going on with KDVS?

Student Affairs appears loaded with layers of administrators we never had before, and probably few Aggies.

Did you meet Mrak? If so, what was he like? Chancellor May seems like a likeable person and sharp, but odds are low he retires here.

Can you tell us how you really feel? Provocative.

The article seems lacking in places. Didn't the Referendum support ICA and PE? We're not Ohio State, and your "administrators" seem intent on erasing many of our unique qualities. Who benefits? Coaches who come here from big time programs and don't want to teach, administrators who have a new source of money to play with ($2 Million?), and Campus Recreation which gets to charge (fleece?) students for classes they formerly took for free?

We should be expanding PE and intramural opportunities, not reducing them.

Do you have other specific examples of these administrators? Eliminating the Cal Aggie Marching Band and (illegally?) taking their endowments?

I don't know Coaches Barbara Hahn or Darryl Lee well, but I really appreciate their input.

I had the Lumberjack breakfast once... what was the dinner like?

I recall a lot of trees, fog, and natural women.
  • What is ailing UCD baseball ?
My minor tweaks were suggested over the larger changes which change the game, and alter generational comparisons & records... who was better, May's, Mantle, Dimaggio, Aaron, Ruth?

I personally say forget the Roid Brothers, allegedly Canseco, McGuire, etc. (Asterix by their numbers.) I preferred the natural strength... imagine Willie Stargel hit a pill out of Dodger Stadium, only player to ever do that, or Willie McCovey.

Maybe Cricket & soccer will gain traction here. Soccer undoubtedly.

Wouldn't some common sense, simple changes help baseball more?

    - limit the batter playing around in the batters box
    - limit the pitchers dragging it out b/t pitches
    - limit excessive or repetitive coaching meetings w pitcher
    - potentially drop the mound 6"
    - etc.

Beer is available at UC Davis Health Stadium at the regular concessions and the pizza vendor.

Warzecka laid out some information and need as before we left... Terry Tumey spent 3 years putting together plans and job shopping ... Teresa Gould spent over a year redoing the previous findings into a SWOT analysis ... I guess they got funds for softball, and a big field hockey donation dropped in their lap.

The new batting cages were finally built?

Haven't they wanted to raise money for lights for 10-15 years? Do they sell beer at Dobbins now?

Sad to hear, the recent pictures I saw of him he looked youthful and happy. RIP.

    70% is 100% correct.
  • What is ailing UCD baseball ?
I belief Rolf chose Davis strictly for academics with no intention to play football. Our football staff was tipped off bc Pac 8 (?) coaches figured we offered Rolf illegal money. We had to go to the dorm directory to contact Rolf in the dorms!

Most everything else you said rings true.
  • What is ailing UCD baseball ?
Did Sochor as HC ever go on the road to recruit, including SoCal? It seems Rolf & O'Brien kind of fell into our laps.
  • What is ailing UCD baseball ?
UCSB, LBSU, Irvine, UCR, St. Mary's, USF, Santa Clara, etc., don't have football, so what is the pecking order ... MBB, WBB, and then baseball? Vastly more pro opportunity in baseball (minors), and maybe out of state recruiting needed w changing SoCal demographics.

The ABE discussion here is just a section of a larger report. Three individuals in ICA approve of ABE nominations. When we had a lapse in our standards, one person occupied two positions, and the FAR was cut out. (This went on for over a year.) There reportedly is a yearly report including ABE - ICA vs non-ICA.

Academic Senate report on Intercollegiate Athletics, April 12, 2012

End of page 7: "... Each UC campus is allowed to admit applicants who are not UC-eligible, in various special circumstances, provided no more than 6% of an incoming class is admitted in this way. This is called admission by exception (ABE). The actual number of ABE students is typically around 2% for UC Davis."

[Page 8] "...Campus policy states that before a case for a possible ABE can be sent from ICA to Admissions, it must be approved by three people: the Director of Athletics, the Senior Associate Director of Athletics / Senior Women Administrator (SWA), and the Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR)."

"...In spite of the overall success of the system, there are areas of concern. The first and largest concern is a recent major policy lapse. For an extended period of time, the FAR was not consulted on many ABE requests that were sent from ICA to admissions. This was a deliberate omission, not an inadvertent mistake. This problem was eventually detected by the FAR, the campus administration was notified, and some corrective actions were taken. We are deeply troubled by the duration of this failure to follow policy and the weak process that allowed it to remain undetected for an extended period. ICA does not keep records from which one could precisely determine the duration of the lapse. Based on available information, it appears that it was a year or longer...."

[Page 9] "Second, SARI reports reveal that there has been a recent increase in the percentage of student athletes admitted by the ABE process so that it has become much higher than the ABE percentage in the overall student population: around 5%-6% vs. around 2%-3%. The intent and expectation is that those percentages should be kept roughly equal."

  • Stanford cuts some sports
Wonderful news. If Stanford w a massive athletic endowment can't support Olympic sports, everyone's in trouble.
  • 2022 Football Recruiting
I believe we do, but its very limited. A few years ago when we had an interim AD, I believe the number of ABE jumped for men's basketball as the FAR (Faculty Athletic Representative) was cut out of the process. This abnormality was part of an ICA study.
