Unfortunately, she was involved with 2 problem incidents (scandals).

She bought some very expensive, unauthorized office furniture, when she was interim AD. $75,000?

A second situation. There were much higher than normal special admit by exception recruits, I think in men's basketball, that I think bypassed our normal procedures and academic requirements. She was interim AD when Warzecka (?) left, and Pam Gill had retired. I think there was an official report on the situation, but they didn't name her.
  • Physical Education eliminated
The Davis Enterprise did a 3-part series on PE Department recently.

Apparently women's Coach Jahn (?) said as older teachers / coaches retired, they didn't replace them. She said new classes would fill immediately, and seemed to imply there was a big unmet need.

From a previous Enterprise article / series:

Physical Education at UC Davis, Part II: PE keeps UC Davis uncommon

    By Owen Yancher

“And if we had … more classes, they’d fill up in a minute,” according to Nancy Wright, the physical-education program’s courses coordinator. “A lot of the time, there are waitlists, but there’s just no room.”

"Both Jahn and former UCD cross-country coach and Physical-Education Program Director Sue Williams credit the classes’ sound-body, sound-mind approach to physical health and mental wellbeing as a draw for so many students navigating demanding academic workloads. That, and the chance to take classes taught by college coaches.

“Berkeley had a similar program at one point,” former Aggie administrator Pam Gill-Fisher remembers. “But very quickly and early on, they diverted away from that vision (and) focused predominantly on athletics instead.”

"The longtime Aggie coach and athletic official says Davis became the lone wolf as far as its physical-education program went. But the university’s dedication to academics before athletics and the role of physical fitness outlined in the campus’ academic mission helped keep UCD “uncommon.” "

"...The same Academic Senate that voiced concerns back in 2003 has raised questions in recent years as to whether UCD is upholding its eighth principle of the athletic department’s mission and core values: “to preserve the teacher-coach role.”

“The university has a responsibility to continue that program,” Warzecka says. “To pull from that program or not offer courses … that, in my opinion, would violate the SASI referendum.” "

  • Physical Education eliminated
Large article in the Davis Enterprise.

"...In recent years, between 7,000-8,000 UCD students (nearly 20 percent of the undergraduate population) have enrolled in about 200 PE classes held annually..."

    A rich history

"...During the late 1950s, PE professor Dean Ryan contributed to the nationwide explosion of sports psychology through his studies on the psychological aspects of performance....

"While internal figures from PE department classes in recent years paint a contrasting picture, also indicated among reasons for the program’s elimination was a “steadily declining enrollment in PE over the years.”

"The statement likely came as a shock to PE program director Barbara Jahn who earlier this year had pointed out that lecturers leaving or retiring from the program were not being replaced, even while campus enrollment swelled and classes remained popular.

“Just because other schools might not offer academic credit for fitness classes, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t,” Jahn had said. “We’ve always been different and that’s part of what’s always made UC Davis stand out.” ...

"When Vanderhoef defied its recommendation the Senate reconvened, later deciding to require that the eight principles of ‘The Davis Way” — the college’s commitment to historical values — be included in the administration’s filing to the NCAA to describe how UCD would run its intercollegiate-athletics program.

"Among those principles, on which the athletic department based its mission, the eighth and final foundational guideline included that “the athletics department at UC Davis must maintain a formal connection to the mission of the university, including preserving the current teacher/coach role.”

"Moreover, in a letter to the campus community following his decision, Vanderhoef noted the leap to Division I was “not about the coaches, the Intercollegiate Athletics administration, or Student Affairs suddenly being gripped with aspirations for “big time” athletics.

“Nor is it about “entertainment” or “business,” the chancellor went on. “Rather, we are seeking, in an evolving landscape, firm ground upon which to continue and enhance a program that is centered around the student-athlete and the teacher-coach. Our program is an uncommon model of intercollegiate sports (and) our plans to preserve it are similarly uncommon.” "

Why done in the dark shadows?

No transparency, breaking established processes. Who drove this one-off decision?

    New Aggie additions...

Finn Rudd - P, 6'3", 210#, Soph, from Highland Community College. Originally from New Zealand.

Averaged 32 per punt and 55 yards per kickoff. Looks like he'll have 3 years left to play. Kiwis know backspin?

Get this. May have NEVER played in high school ... simply practicing on his own, for 3 years?? (So says a vlogger.)

I was unaware of the Mendocino / August Fire, approaching 1 Million acres. Ridiculous. Years ago, we allegedly tore out many logging / fire roads because of lawsuits from the "Let it Burn" coalition. :rage:

Unprecedented fire season (250% of our previous high) and homelessness aside, Governor Newsom has put a commission together to study reparations and transgendered individuals get to pick their own prison (i.e., a 6'3" 200# male can choose the women's prison).

    Go Ags!
