Only see an ad for Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Performance; can't find the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Performance info. Also, while perusing the UC Davis Athletics webpages, I couldn't help but notice a conspicuous absence of diversity among athletic administrators. Not something I paid much attention to over that past few years, however, this could prove problematic in future recruiting efforts.
  • UC Davis Impact on Washington Coach Chris Petersen
You also omitted the back2back 4-7 seasons just prior to Gould being hired. I believe everyone is disappointed in the results of the last "six (6)" seasons, but there are a few on this board that are over-the-top in their distain for Gould. He's gone; time to get over it and move forward!

Did the current recruits know they were committing to lame-duck coaches? I know these verbal commitments, however, with 5 weeks before NLI signing day, most scholarship agreements are already in-place. I would hope all discussions and subsequent decisions were made in the light - with complete transparency.

It's really time for the NCAA to allow players to transfer with impunity! The INSTITUTION can change coaches and COACHES can change jobs - with impunity. Time to afford PLAYERS the same accommodation.
  • 2017 Recruiting
True! Former MJC Coach Sam Young now a consultant w/ Hawk. The backstory, to me, is the lack of HS recruiting information.
  • 2017 Recruiting
Attended Modesto Junior College. Couldn't find any recruiting information on this player out of HS. Awaiting backstory - if he does, in deed, sign with Davis.

His NAU bio page says they changed their offense to "a pro style/no-huddle philosophy" , This sounds like he has a variety of formations and reads, and plays derived therefrom.

    University of Sioux Falls connection.

Well, he passes the litmus test - previously coached w/ Hawk; and could come onboard as, say, an unpaid coach / consultant!? If he doesn't get a comparable "Head Coach" job, he'll get his full buyout money and won't be hurting for cash.

Montana's pass to run ratio is about 2 to 1 across the board. That's a different incarnation of the Fly Sweep offense than I was envisioning. Hope I'm wrong and you're right!

"Make UC Davis Great Again!" Gimmick offense; High School, JC, D3 coaches; son - next up? Surprise, surprise, suprise. Hope the donor money is sustainable.

I wasn't challenging your observations or opinions. You're reporting what you've read and the logical assertions drawn therefrom. I'm a big fan of Jet / Fly Sweep formations and their potential to disrupt / confuse defensive keys. I just don't like it as a primary scheme. This goes to potential recruiting impact as well.

We're talking about a D3 team that reached the playoffs 3 times (1 win) in 11 years. Don't see this gimmick offense being effective over the course of a season, let alone a legitimate championship run.

Coach Tucker was DC for Team USA HC Hawk. Nice connect!

We'll potentially pick-up a couple of recruits from LAVC and/or other Junior Colleges.

Reality Check! Coach Hawkins hasn't coached collegiately for 7 or so years. Does he even have a network of RECRUITERS that can hit the ground running; persuading high-quality, admissible recruits to commit to UC Davis this late in the process. Not to mention retaining those recruits that have (only) verbally committed.

I feel he should focus on the larger tasks of fundraising, academic support, equipment upgrades, admissions, strategic planning, etc. Perhaps bring in a consultant or two this first year to assist with the implementation of his vision going forward.
  • The Hawk Era - Bringing Fans to Aggie Stadium
First and foremost, please lose the Colorado & Nike logos on all Dan Hawkins images. Also, what is the prevailing sentiment on the potential bump in interest by adding the player's names on the back of their jerseys?

There is definitely great talent in Northern CA. This is reflected in the last three (3) recruiting classes' virtual 50/50 distribution of players from Northern and Southern CA, with a few from Arizona, Oregon and Washington. The current staff is still actively recruiting new players while re-recruiting/affirming prior commits. Coach Hawkins will benefit from these efforts while he tunes his own recruiting focus; hopefully he can secure commitments from some under-the-radar talent - especially OL and DL. Go Ags!
  • The State of UC Davis Football
To my dismay, I have yet to read one (1) comment expressing any concerns or thoughts for the student-athletes left in the wake of this decision. Hopefully Dr. Blue (AD) and the new coach (who ever he may be) will honor the scholarship agreements in-place with the current players. These were good-faith agreements between the player (family) and THE UNIVERSITY of CALIFORNIA DAVIS, not with a particular coach. The NCAA is very clear (emphatic even) in affirming this point when restricting player transfers. Do the right thing. Only time will tell!
