In addition to te brutal schedule, there were several significant (unrevealed and misdiagnosed) injuries to key players on the 2019 team. There were enormous expectations heap upon that 2019 team. Unfortunately "football" happens!
As for 2024, I suspect we'll see more streach offense schemed.
The 2021 receivers were playing at a very high caliber until a rash of injuries - most notably Hunter's concussion - impeded the flow. Play calling / quarterback play going forward further restricted what was once an effective passing attack.
That observation is spot on. He's actually gone down - relatively easy - on multiple runs. Under the current circumstances, I can't say as I blame him!
As CA Forever stated above, Thompkins has to make the 3rd down play. He ran his route into the boundry (sideline). If he runs a better route, Davis gets the 1st down and at least 4 more downs of clock management.
Coach Hawk's 2nd season - Big Sky Co-Champs! Skill Players (Offense); Jake Maier; Keelan Doss; Jared Harrell; Ulonzo Gilliam; Tehran Thomas; Wes Preece; Kris Vaughn; Carson Crawford; Justin Kraft; Darius Livingston. Offensive Line, Defense and Special Teams were strong as well.
Has anyone else noticed that our defenders drop their heads when tackling. They miss a lot of tackles and seldom stop the other team's runners and receivers upon 1st contact! That's not just this game either.
Seems like coaching staff is treating these games / play calling more like Spr. practice than ana live season. We've only attempted one(1) deep/vertical pass in 2 games
