Well at least we did not quit when we went down 21-0. Congrats on the win.

Like I said our defense has played well considering the little help our offense has given them. We held three of the top Big Sky teams to some fairy low number (for them). We held NAU to 28. Since then they have scored 48, 37, 42 and 45. We held SUU to 20. They have scored 27, 32 and 46 in their other Big Sky games. We held Weber State to 17. They have scored 31, 41, 25 and 16 in their other Big Sky games. Only SUU has held them to less.

Like I said we have played well on defense. Davis may score 42, but I would not count on it.

Problem is our offense is toothless and has no claws this year. I think our defense can keep it interesting for a while, but we do not have enough offensive firepower to win. I believe we will be leaving the shoe in Davis this year. Hopefully we right the ship in the offseason and you can leave it in SLO next year.

This year definitely is not a typical Cal Poly team. Over the last decade Cal Poly’s offense has been extremely efficient and the defense has been a liability. This year the defense has kept us in games and the offense has been any thing but efficient. Not only are they not racking up the yards and points they usually do, they are turning over the ball at an alarming rate.

While I pray for a miracle that we can get our first win of the season and keep the Horseshoe in SLO, I think I have as much chance of winning the lottery. Like Polydad, I am hoping this is just an off year. I think we have two of our best recruiting classes the last two years so I am hoping it is. While I won’t wish you luck on Saturday I will wish you luck the rest of the year.
  • 2018 Recruiting List
As usual Cal Poly chasing many of the same players as Davis. We have offers out to OL Nico Sarale, WR Lance Babb II and DL Baraka Beckett.
  • Week 6: Eastern Washington @ UC Davis
Great game and effort by Davis. You may not have won, but you put the rest of the FCS on notice that there is some big changes happening in Davis.
  • Big Sky 9/23
Cal Poly is struggling on offense for the first time in a long time. QB is a great athlete, but is to hesitant in his reads which makes it easier to defend the TO. New OC not as creative with the offense which makes it easier to defend. Defense which is usually the weak link, has played ok. It is going to be a long season in SLO.
  • Week 3: UC Davis @ Portland State
Nice win. I thought you had a great shot in this game, but I did not expect the final score. Impressive.
  • Big Sky 9/9
We play NAU, PSU and Weber State all at home.
  • Big Sky 9/9
Jenkins definitely looked better. 9 of 16 for 243 yards and 4 TDs passing and 102 yards and a TD rushing. That said he is still a little hesitant in the TO reads and had two costly bad fumbles on bad pitches one of which was return for a TD by UNI.

Colgate came very close to beating #9 Richmond today. We are 0-3, but we are not as bad as some think and we can still make some noise in the Big Sky not having to face UND or EWU. We have a bye week to get ready.

    Good luck today against USD.
  • Big Sky 9/9
"I guess when the run isn't working"???

Did not work much in the first two games, but Cal Poly puts up 305 rushing yards and 543 total yards up against UNI on the road. Fumble for a scoop and score by UNI the difference in the game.
  • Game day in SLO
Third Offensive Coordinator in three years. Tuitelle is now OL coach at New Mexico and Wood is QB coach at Georgia Southern. I think the combination of a new OC and new QB led to a way too conservative game offensively. Not only did we have too many FB dives into a stacked D, we have two other capable FBs to give Protheroe a breather. Hopefully they will open up the offense. We certainly have other capable weapons and the triple option is dangerous when it is not so predictable.
  • Game day in SLO
Rough start to the season. SJSU also played USF tough so next week will be tougher than I originally thought and we then go on the road to by UNI. We better open up our play book on offense or we are looking at 0-3.

Thanks BlueGoldAg. I will be watching from my IPad while watching my 13 year old daughter play in a basketball tournament in So Cal.

Good luck next week against SDSU. Do your school and the Big Sky proud.
  • 2017 Recruiting
I believe that there is three different times a walk on can be added in the FCS. The three times are the start of fall camp, the beginning of the academic year and spring practice. I believe fall camp in the FCS is limited to 95 players and this is the time most preferred walk on are added. When school starts the team can be expanded to 105 players and you will see players added then. They also add players in the Spring of their freshmen year and these are players that were not promised a spot on the team, but are more or less trying out for the team.
  • 2017 Recruiting
Preferred walk ons generally report to fall camp and walk ons generally start (try out) in spring.
  • UC Davis Aggies vs NC Central Eagles @ Dayton, OH
Congrats on the big win and good luck against Kansas. Do the Big West proud.

Congrats on going dancing. Play in games are good for Davis and the conference. Good chance for a win and each win brings money to the conference. A win is also great for the fans and players.
