It's not like I only post when we're winning, but this fourth quarter has been fun. Nice to see the other team's O-line worn down by our D, who has played with some fire this half. Their chance to seal the win here.

The whole mess makes me sad, culminating with the September 3 announcement that the university was disbanding the Band-uh, and blackballing the Band-uh Alumni. I am heartened by the backpedaling by the administration, and the prospect of the Band-uh performing tomorrow at the Montana game.

I am old enough to recall the inclusion of women into the band, and the controversy that entailed. At the time I thought this was an obviously necessary reform, as society was gradually realizing in nearly all areas of life segregated by gender. (I really can't remember I was in high school at the time, or if it occurred after I enrolled in '74. I clearly remember women in the band when I was a student.)

I have not reviewed the public information regarding this current situation, but I readily concede the likely necessity to make some changes in Band-uh structure, administration and even Band-uh culture (to the extent that such culture can be engineered from authorities above, but there is a lot of that going on these days, at colleges/universities, and in the rest of society these days). The decisions to form committees, appoint new layers of administration, codify values into behavioral codes, and rebranding is pretty much the way university regimes as well as bureaucracies throughout our society typically behave. Shouldn't expect anything but, I suppose.

I happened to notice an article on deadspin the other day, about Columbia University eliminating their band as their football program has emerged from decades of being non-competitive in the Ivy.

Deadspin even has a category for articles tagged The War on Marching Bands . (I rarely read Deadspin, until Ray Ratto joined them a couple of months ago).

So that is some interesting context. College administrators really don't like not being in control (or indulging in the delusion of control).

I am hopeful for a satisfactory resolution. Make some changes to discourage/prevent abusive behavior keep the soul and spirit of the Band-uh tradition and history intact going forward, rescind this asinine banning of the Band-uh Alumni Association, should be doable. Fingers crossed.

True, size matters, plus King had to come a few steps to get to the hole, didn't have his best balance. Compared to the USD game saver, he had a full head of steam, with the runner having no other angle to take to the goal line. Don't mean to criticize him, I feel bad for him.

I thought they held up pretty well stamina wise today. Just asked the D to do it too many times.

I was confused after the first two games about this team. Today clarifies how good the Ags are. Right there, pretty close to NDSU.

Oh my. King saves the USD game with a goal line tackle. Then gets run over by the QB like that. He had a nice pick earlier and seems to have played well today.

I think a few times he was looking deep then threw short. He could've been looking off the defense on designed plays, or looking for a receiver deep seeing coverage and then throwing short. When he has thrown deep today, often there are defenders. Just my dumb opinion.

eta: I don't mean deep-deep (30 or 40 yards). Just anything over 15 or so, relatively deep.

The Bison D-backs must be doing a great job covering. Maier keeps looking deep and dropping off short.

Maier audibled nicely on that drive (as far as I can tell via tv, some could've been fake audibles, usually not this early).

ESPN+ is pretty good. I subscribe in the spring, my goddaughter plays lacrosse for Marist, and they carry some of her games. They cover lots of college sports, men and women.

Aggie punter was pumped by his saving tackle, for good reason.

I didn't have video until the second half, and by then plenty of second-stringers were in the mix (I assume), tough for me to judge. This win can give some confidence and rhythm which comes with the early games of a season, that I sensed lacking against USD. But they didn't look sharp, dropped passes, missed tackles, small errors easy to miss in the blowout win.

Loved the throwback uniforms. I don't know what I love more, one night of the navy blue jerseys/gold pants/gold helmet, or the hopefully long term return of the lemon CA logo.

At North Dakota State speaks for itself, no need for more words or speculation from me. Can't wait to see how the Ags do this round.
