  • Opening Day 2021 - @ Tulsa
IMO, the Big Sky is the best FCS football conference in the country.movielover

I'm not sure if the Big Sky is the best, because I don't pay enough attention to FCS football, but the Big Sky, Missouri Valley and Colonial are consistently stacked year after year.

Holy crap. Went to check the US soccer roster and the score popped up with us up with about 4 minutes left.

    Amazing win.
  • Afghanistan debacle pullout
Question, which president agreed to pull all troops out of Afghanistan in the first place?

Of course, we all know movielover doesn't care about that fact. If the same exact scenario had happened except it was Biden who agreed to pull the troops out but Trump was president when the troops got pulled out, movielover would have been destroying Biden for agreeing to pull the troops out in the first place.

This whole situation is a disaster and likely would have been regardless of the political party in charge. Bush got us into this war and Obama was fine with it. Trump wanted to get the troops out and Biden seems to be in agreement with that. It's an incredibly unfortunate situation all around that appears to not have a clear good solution.
  • Dunning: Move Aggies football to Pac-12
My god that's a terrible column.

Several years ago UCD qualified for the I-AA — now the FCS — playoffs and came within a whisker of playing for the national championship.

It was three years ago. Several implies like a decade or so. Just say three years ago.

If men’s and women’s basketball can do it, so can football.

Yes, we're D1 in those sports because the FCS only exists in football. We're essentially in the FCS though if you did break it up into two divisions.

Well, just as I was thinking all these thoughts, I saw a story by ESPN’s excellent senior writer, Heather Dimich, with the headline, “Pac-12 commisioner George Kliavkoff says conference not looking to add schools, but would be ‘foolish’ not to listen.”

Yeah, they're looking to add schools from other major conferences, like the Big 12. They're not even looking at MWC schools, let alone a random FCS team has had 1 season in the FCS with 7 or more wins and only 1 winning season in the last decade.

And, miracle of miracles, the Aggies actually own a football win over Stanford, rallying from a 17-0 deficit to take a 20-17 victory home to Davis.

Of course that win was great. But one upset isn't a reason to justify moving up to the Pac-12.

This is a "I'm up against a deadline, have to come up with something and I've got nothing better to write about" type of column.
  • UC Davis Baseball Team and Coaching Staff Suspended
Yeah, that seems like it would be odd to suspend the entire baseball program because the coaching staff fostered a culture that discouraged studying and academic success. Seems like you'd just fire the coaching staff if that was the case. And if there was a toxic culture among the players as well, you just tell the new coaching staff to make sure academics are a priority and if some players don't like it, they don't play. Guarantee the coaching staff you back them for a few years to build a better culture and bring in players who buy in that way they're not focused on a quick fix/aren't worried about having a couple horrible seasons as they turn the program around.

Why care what I think ? I'm just a random on a message board whom you offended.Goags20172

Because it was the courteous thing to do? You clearly took my statement in a way I didn't necessarily intend (not your fault in any way) so I wanted to clarify what I meant. Apparently you thought I was just being a dick with my followup so I attempted to reiterate that I wasn't.

Goags20172: "Its not nice to attack me."

Also Goags20172: *proceeds to attack another poster*

I wasn't walking back my statement so much as I was clarifying what I meant. I know exactly what I said originally and I do understand how it could be taken harshly, hence why I attempted to clarify what I meant. I was being 100% serious when I said that there's nothing wrong with not wanting to be around random fans at a sporting event. I have a coworker who avoids crowds as well. She knows what she likes and doesn't like and she avoids situations that she knows she won't enjoy. That sounds like what you're doing. You don't like random fans bothering you, so you either don't go or you specifically sit in areas where random fans don't and can't bother you. The enjoyment you get in going to sporting events isn't worth the hassle of enduring constant annoyances. That's perfectly fine. That's how we make choices. We ask ourselves if the positives outweigh the negatives.
  • UC Davis Baseball Team and Coaching Staff Suspended
LOL. You sure got me good there. I’m not sure how I’ll ever recover.

Here’s the difference. You’re assuming I’m an internet troll based on one single comment I made, which was perfectly valid because of your post.

On the other hand, you said you actively avoid other people at sporting events because they always annoy you and sitting next to people forces you to endure constant annoyances. And hey, there’s nothing wrong with that! You don’t like sitting next to random people at sporting events, you know it, so you move away. Or you avoid events that are going to be sold out or close to it.

But that doesn’t mean my statement was wrong and that other fans are the issue. I’m not saying all fans are perfect and wonderful to be around. They’re obviously not. But you have such issues with fans that you’re going to fewer and fewer sporting events when you can’t essentially have like 5 rows to yourself. So the logical conclusion is that you don’t like being around people you don’t know. And again, there’s nothing wrong with that. You’re certainly not the only one.
  • UC Davis Baseball Team and Coaching Staff Suspended
Sounds like it isn't sporting events or other fans that's the issue.
  • Hawk: the best Aggie team ever - 2021
Yeah, that's a pretty bold statement considering the 2018 was one drive away from hosting an FCS Semifinal game.

That being said, I hope he's right.
  • UC Davis Baseball Team and Coaching Staff Suspended

I mean, they suspended the entire program, coaches included. They're not going to do that if like three or four seniors decided to haze a couple freshmen one time.

You don't have to like the Bee, but this clearly isn't making something out of nothing.
  • Bison QB goes #3 to the 49ers
    Agreed.

Carson Wentz only had a year and a half of playing time, though he was a 4 year player, and as much as he’s dropped off the last couple years, was a favorite to win the MVP before he got hurt when the Eagles won the Super Bowl.

Just because the dude went to an FCS school isn’t a good knock against him in the same way that just because a guy performed at a big time FBS school, he’s not a lock to succeed. There’s risk in every single pick. A lot of these guys are going to fail.
  • UC to stop using SAT & ACT scores for admissions
It is about money, but money is deeply correlated with zip code, school quality, family living situation, immigration status, and yes, race.fugawe09

    Bingo.

When certain races are more likely to have money, they're more likely to have resources (money) to invest (both in terms of money directly but also moving to specific areas to get their kids into specific schools) into their kids, thereby giving them a better chance of performing better on standardized tests. When you reward those people, it just trickles down and the wheel never stops.

And I say this as someone who could be described, completely accurately, as a privileged white man.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
Wasn't rooting either way, and both teams qualify for this distinction, but it's always good (as an independent viewer) seeing a team finally get over the hump. Sam Houston had become known for not just losing in the playoffs, but getting blasted when they lost.

    39-13 in 2012 to NDST
    35-3 in 2014 to NDST
62-10 in 2015 to Jacksonville State
65-7 in 2016 to James Madison
    55-13 in 2017 to NDST

Three of those were semifinals and a fourth was the title game so this wasn't some crap team that snuck in, won a game and faced the 1 seed.

Related note, over the past decade, Sam Houston has made the playoffs 8 times. Of the 7 times they didn't win the title, four of those they lost to NDST. SDST has made the playoffs the last 9 seasons. Four of those times they were eliminated by NDST. It makes sense considering NDST has won 8 of the last 10 so if you make the playoffs every year, you're going to lose to NDST a few time. Still crazy to see though.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
    That was a fun ending.
  • 2021 Spring Playoffs
New champ this year. South Dakota St has never even been in a title game before and Sam Houston lost their only two appearances, both to NDST in 2011 and 2012.
  • Jenner says transgender girls in women’s sports is ‘unfair’
But the why is a very important part of the equation here when we’re talking about serious topics like this. Because if they’re just a bigoted hateful person who thinks being trans is made up or a fad or not real (to be clear, I’m not saying any of the women you’ve talked to are this way because I don’t know them) then their opinion on the matter is irrelevant.
  • Jenner says transgender girls in women’s sports is ‘unfair’
If I heard a woman say they are uncomfortable sharing a locker room with a man who transitioned to a woman, I’d ask them if they are uncomfortable sharing a locker room with a lesbian. If they don’t care about the lesbian I’d ask why?

I’d also recommend that she just doesn’t shower in a public shower anymore if it bothers her that much.
  • Jenner says transgender girls in women’s sports is ‘unfair’
To address the thread title, Caitlyn Jenner is an effing moron and nobody should listen to her opinions on just about anything.

This is an issue that the right wing has basically made up and then blown way out of proportion. If some 15 year old boy really wants to transition to be a girl so he can win a state track meet, then so be it. I mean, you get nothing from that other than a headline in a newspaper and then people forget you. Then guess what, you’re still a girl afterwards and you have to deal with all the bigoted morons who will hate you just because you’re trans. Because it’s not like you can just declare yourself a girl and start competing against girls immediately. I just don’t see the upside that would make someone transition to being a girl just for the sake of competing in sports.
