We need to go 3-1 in the first 4 cuz that final 4 games are REALLY tough. Is it realistic to think 3-1, followed by 2-2? 7 might not be playoff worthy but certainly trending where we need to be

I watched the 60-minute version of the game on the Pac-12 network and agreed with myself and NCagalum about Maier. He looked pretty sharp for most of the game. He got put into 3rd and long throughout the game and Stanford was able to drop 8 into the passing lanes (with LOTS of physical play at the line) or blitz through a wide open slot to disrupt timing. His numbers would have been better if we eliminate most of the drops (get those back AND get better down and distance situations). I'm a little concerned about Montgomery's absence; hopefully Harrell was a one-gamer and we cautiously sat him from a non-winnable game.

Defense was really good. They flew to the ball and were good in the passing game (we got more pressure on them then they on us). we had some really nice drives, like the one before the half, that we didn't finish. that one hurt because we shoot ourselves in the foot twice with penalties that put us in tough spots (the 4th and17 conversion to Doss was impressive). even with the field position they got (the fake punt might not have been a great idea) it was 20-3 late in the 3rd.

I feel much better about our defense after last week. Offense will get back in sync. We win comfortably

Stanford moved up to 7 in the polls. probably due more to losses by Wisconsin and Auburn, than respect to the Cardinal beating us! :smile:

Classes start sept 24 so this upcoming weekend is move-in weekend. Running of the first years

I think the 11:00 start was a hinderance. There was a bus from Davis that was mostly full; not sure what time they had to leave. Alumni pregame section was full. Our section ( part of our season ticket packet ) was mostly empty. Some folk were standing in the breezeway but I think most didn’t make the trip.

They did move down so they’ll be tough. Fresno beat them up 79-13 in week one before they beat D2 Western New Mexico 28-13. So not off to a torrid start. If we’re not too banged up and get focused on a FCS team, I like our chances

Looked to me like the timing was off with the pass game. Probably a combo of Stanford’s physical (and really good DBs), their front line getting enough pressure to disrupt passing lanes, and some new guys getting more looks. Maier was okay, considering the step up in defensive quality. He wasn’t helped by several early drops. We have to clean that up.

Defense was really solid today. Got decent pressure on the QB, did a good job against the run and battled against some big talented receivers. They were hurt with drive that started in great field position. Gives me real hope for the rest of the season.

Special teams? Bad, really bad. Short punts, and a blocked FG. Punting game was night and day vs last week. After the shank on the 2nd punt (first kick was a beauty putting them on their 15), punter seemed to be shaky. Directional kicks weren’t good, and line drives on the others. Gave them field position all day. Hopefully a onr-off and he’ll be back to his earlier form.
