  • Men's Big West Conference Tournament March 8-10
odds for next two are Fullerton by 1.5, and Irvine by 4. UCSB is a 10-point favorite -> they got the best draw. Like to see Hawaii pull off an upset so we get them in the next round. If not? Fullerton. I can't see us losing 3 times to them, especially since we played poorly last time and still had a shot at the end.

you didn't think it would be easy, didya? i was feeling pretty good early in the 2nd half when we were up 13-14, but then we got sloppy and they started hitting shots. FT's down the stretch did the trick.

Joe Freakin' Mooney......12 first half points

Marsh said 9 players Jackson out with reoccurring illness. First time I heard that mentioned

we're 7 point favorites today; that seems pretty high considering the past two games, the 'neutral' court and the weird 12:00 start. i'll be happy with a one-point win and get to the next round!

i figure i can follow online during my 1:00 meeting....might be harder to follow the radio broadcast! your tax dollars at work!
  • Congrats to Coaches of the Year!
Anyone watch the coaches show tonight? Caught the end of les. Entertaining. Guessing first question was about Chima
  • Improving the program
They have Woodstock pizza at the beer court
  • Improving the program
an off the court improvement? concessions! we have one stand for the entire pavillion. the line can take the entire half time to get through. The beer 'garden' is a nice addition, but another full-service concession, and maybe a smaller drink/popcorn/candy stand would help things.
  • Would Tougher Non-Conference Schedules Be Better for MBB & WBB?
as an aside, our current RPI is 95. last year, we finished the season at 153. SOS last year was 297, this year 190. we get no love vs. Big West, but those games vs. the Washington, Nevada, USF, Radford, Northern Colorado (2), Utah Valley help things out. Love to get a few more juicy games at home (like a WCC team besides UOP)
  • Would Tougher Non-Conference Schedules Be Better for MBB & WBB?
they won their league tournament and finished the year with 22 wins. their conference is the Big South, also home to Longwood which is where Isaiah Walton ended up. He led the last-place Lancers with 16 ppg, 2.5 assists and 1.3 steals.
  • MBB 7:30 pm Saturday ESPN3: Aggies @ Irvine for the Big West Championship
The Hawkins championship team was a lot of fun to watch because of Corey and their ability to light it up. But this team is special. There is no way you think they can go into Sante Barbara and wax them to get back in the race, and then go into Irvine and gut out a win. This group really deserve a banner. Aggie pride at its best!

Shorts is at least newcomer of the year. Les is coach of the year. Graduate 4 starters and sixth man and play second half without best player? And win the championship? Hands down!! Les is More!!

Un freaking believable! I’m sure I was the only person at the Antioch sports legends crab feed following the game! Great night to be an Aggie AND a crab fan!!!

that and the big difference in 3 point shooting in the 1st half. we were 6-13, while they were 2-11. On the Island, Purchase really hurt us with his 3 pointers, but only had 2 last night (1 in the 1st half). I also agree with BlueGoldAg's statement that they didn't seem ready to play. they went to a full court zone in the 2nd half and got more aggresive but it was late by then.

you know what was a big play? they made a little run early in the second half to bring a 17 point lead down to 11 on a long 3-pointer. and the guy who made it got a 'T'. Shorts made the 2 free throws, John made a 3-pointer and we were up 16 again. that sucked the remaining life out of them.
  • Chima Moneke Suspended Indefinitely
i think it also helps that he's a good student (graduating a bit early) and had been a great representative of the program and university.
  • Chima Moneke Suspended Indefinitely
“I will graduate in three weeks. (At that time) I’ll get an agent and move from Davis,”

makes it sounds like he doesn't foresee a possibility of being reinstated for a possible post-season run.

Couple of other observations. Chancellor May was in his courtside seat, interacting with fans throughout the game. Provost Ralph Hexter was sitting behind the basket, wearing what looked like a UCD block jacket -> that guy is a enthusiastic fan! AD Blue is sitting among the fans, getting into the action. Just a real good look for the program.

Also, ran into Bob Biggs at halftime and had a very interesting discussion about the team, their tenacious defense and their grit. That's kind of a unique Davis thing -> coaches from the past sticking around and being active parts of the entire athletic program. It was similar to seeing Sochor sitting up in section 206 dissecting the games!

Well-worth the midweek drive up to watch the game. This is a really enjoyable team to watch. Defense in the first half was stifling. The ball movement has improved tremendously as the season as progressed, and there is a much higher degree of confidence in their outside shooting. Only downside was the high number of turnovers; we've been really good as of late protecting the ball, so the 19 last night was a minor red flag (especially since so many seemed unforced). That steal, save, wild layup of Shorts was really an amazing play. Fun sitting with Agalum and his grandson -> he really seemed to enjoy the atmosphere!

Drive home in the heavy rain wasn't so much fun. Listening to the post-game with Marsh talking to Onyebalu, Hemmings and Les made the 1st 15 minutes enjoyable. that last 60 minutes...not so much. I don't think we can count on help from Poly (v UCSB) or Hawaii (v Fullerton), so we really need to win on Saturday to make the BWT run a real possibility.

Team is playing with a lot of confidence. Good ball movement, good d. They really look confident taking the 3. Good half. Decent crowd
