  • Week 11: UC Davis @ Eastern Washington
I thought run defense vs Poly was pretty good after the first drive. No long runs. I think yards per carry was good. Vs NAU, they basically ran the wildcat which gives them a numbers advantage. They’ve been getting a lot a rush yards with it; again, we didn’t give up large chunks. EWU has a good rush game coupled with solid pass, do that’s really going to test us

I think the noon start vs Sac is ROOTS TV thing, as was the early (4:00) kickoff for Idaho
  • Week 10: Big Sky
I think we wanted ISU to win, if they could comeback to beat Weber.
  • Week 10: Northern Arizona @ UC Davis
I like 4:00 for October and November. Works for locals and out of towners. I was surprised at the turnout, not just the students. Grass on the north end was sparse, not bad in the south. West side was relatively full but they’ve been offering discounts lately.

First quarter offense was as good as it gets. 200 yards, 3 TD. Jake was 10-11. And that was into the wind. Penalties and that INT (that could have been a TD; I think wind pushed it) stalled us in the second. Defense was solid in the second half against a one-dimensional attack. Special teams were solid ( punts into the wind were pretty effective even though yardage looks below average)

On to Cheney. That’s gonna be a tough one.
  • Yet Another Poll...Coach of the Year (Hawk)
Does it say when the polls close?
  • Yet Another Poll...Coach of the Year (Hawk)
Currently leading by a bit. Hawk and Teevens at Princeton should be the top two
  • Yet Another Poll...Coach of the Year (Hawk)
catching up. need more votes to surprise the leader. how can the NDSU guy be coach of the year? they are loaded every year!
  • Yet Another Poll...Coach of the Year (Hawk)
I don’t think he’ll pass the NDSU coach; fan base is VERY active

their pass defense looks pretty legit. ISU was 15-32 for 179 yards, 1TD/1 INT. EWU had big numbers, but that's about it. They have given up alot of rushing yards (248 v EWU, 297 v Missouri State, 315 to ISU and 343 v Poly) so that might explain some of it. Completion rates are less than 50%. MIght explain why we tried to run it and run it and run it against them last year.

It would be nice to know the status of Cookus for certain; else, I think they are hurting at QB. Their run game has been okay, except vs POly (356). ISU held them to 77 (but passed for 356!).

Nothing is easy in the Big Sky. Need to play a very solid game.

My mistake on the coaches show..its tonight at 7:00. probably have to work around Kings basketball to get a slot. Breakfast at Cindy's sounds like its still a go on Thursday!
  • Week 10: Northern Arizona @ UC Davis
sounds like Cookus is out and its down to the 3rd string guy (true freshman), but i haven't seen anything definitive about Cookus.

by the way, apparently there is a weekly 'open' breakfast on Thursdays at 7:00 in Cindy's for locals who want to mingle with the staff.

NAU has the top ranked pass defense. DBs are the strength of team. We’ll need to get the running game going. They are struggling to score, so critical to have solid special teams and NO turnovers

Coaches show tonight. I got an email for football alum urging them out. 2 for 1 tickets for them. Fill the place up
  • Kennesaw State public relations working hard....
i think what brought them to Fargo was the location; small college town, snow, the whole town out to watch. Can't imagine that Atlanta would have that type of atmosphere.
  • WAC Exploring FCS Football
it would be a terrible move for football....horrible for all other sports. Big West/Big Sky >>>> WAC.
  • Week 9: UC Davis @ Montana
right near the end, one of our backup DB's dropped what would have probably been a pick-six on a 3rd and long. as he jogged off the field, one of their remaining fans mumbled 'nice hands, 4'. i turned and looked at the guy and said 'seriously? 46 points in a row and you heckle a backup?'. a sea of stunned faces in that stretch.
  • Week 9: UC Davis @ Montana
I completely agree with you, I doubt the coaches thought Stanford = Montana, but i think they are even overwhelmed by the level of noise. Talking to locals after the game, and from reading some post-game comments by their comment, that noise level was exceptional even by their standards.

In the second half, we made some adjustments to our snap's that seemed to make a big difference. left guard looked back at QB and pointed his hand forward when Maier was ready. Snap followed soon after. That got everyone more in sync. In first half, there seemed to be long pauses between when QB was ready and when the ball was snapped. Add in some late DL shifts (and some timely signals called by their DL/LB's.....one that FINALLY resulted in a defensive delay of game in the 2nd half) and that caused many of the jumps. That adjustment gave us a chance to get the run game going and get the rhythm back in the pass game.

When we got ready for the first snap of the game, it was DEAFENING on the field. I didn't go to the Oregon game (Autzen gets loud), but this was BY FAR the loudest i've ever heard a stadium. and it got LOUDER when he had a false start on the first play! 'Toto, we ain't in Davis anymore!'
  • Things to do in Cheney / Spokane for 1st time visitor?
    The Centennial Hotel Spokane
303 W North River Dr, Spokane, WA 99201

I haven’t heard yet about where they are staying ( should be Spokane). I’ll reach out again this week, there will probably be a get together Friday and/or Saturday. There were about 30 of us in Missoula, not counting families.
