  • Non-Conference hub?
that was kind of lame; they were restricted to 12 players and only 2 could touch a ball. Hard to have a real practice. Look for Jon Wilmer online; he writes almost daily about the PAC 12 in the mercury. He thinks a November 7 start
  • Non-Conference hub?
I can’t see that since it sounds like the Pac is moving to a late October or early November start, and the other two haven’t been cleared for anything close to a normal practice. Since FCS is pushing for 16 team playoff, I think we’ll be stuck with 8 game BSC schedule.
  • Big Sky replays
Uggh....they showed the SUU game twice. Once was enough
  • Big Sky replays
Two replays today. SUU at 3:00 and Portland State at 5:45.
  • Big 10 Coming back, Mtn West pushing, Boise St furloughs
an advantage of being a major university. Portland State seems to be on life support (especially losing two PAC12 games) and EWU seems to be having serious issues. Supporting certain protocols seems to be unrealistic. Not sure if that’s what is driving the SUU possible opt out.

As a side note, the final week of the proposed schedule (from NCAA FCS championship guide) falls on Picnic Day. So, Causeway and Picnic Day!
  • Big 10 Coming back, Mtn West pushing, Boise St furloughs
I don’t think most FCS schools have the resources to provide the testing required. Question will be whether things have changed enough after the first of the year that will allow play with reduced testing. Else, I think several FCS leagues or teams will bail.
  • Games Actually Being Played
There was a zoom gathering today with Hawk with a couple guests ( Bakari Grant and Chaple Brown). We’re allowed a fall practice (similar to a spring) but our county hasn’t changed restrictions, so TBD. 8 game schedule starting late February - Big Sky is releasing it tomorrow but not to the public for awhile. There’s talk that SUU will opt out, which will force changes. Still fluid.
  • Will UCD cut any sports ?
I don’t think we need to rely on Aggies in the pros for fundraising. The big football donors got nowhere close to the NFL. Most of our ex pros are missing from the Team Aggie list.
  • Games Actually Being Played
I think some of the Big 12 , based on yesterday’s results, thought they weren’t starting until later!
  • JT O'Sullivan interviewed in article in Guardian about life as a journeyman NFL QB.
I vividly remember those two games, yet forgot what I had for breakfast 3 hours ago!

Beating Davis was a HUGE goal for them. Harbaugh called it his bowl game when they came in undefeated. I still get nauseous thinking about our loss down there in 2008. ALMOST ruined a trip to our favorite US city
  • JT O'Sullivan interviewed in article in Guardian about life as a journeyman NFL QB.
harbaugh/johnson was at the Toomey -> their first visit to davis. the game i was referring to was the first year at Aggie Stadium. Harbaugh had left for Stanford then. 2007 was the 49-46 epic win; USD was coached by Ron Caragher. 2006 we beat them 37-27 in the first game at the Toom.

that USD game at Aggie Stadium was one of the most exciting games we’ve had (along with Idaho State OT, and UNI playoff). Johnson was electric leading them to last minute twinning TD......until Matt Engel led the long late second winning drive ! That was their first season post Harbaugh.
  • Austin Peay vs Central Arkansas tonight 8/29
North Dakota State is playing central Arkansas also. Their only fall game. Maybe a showcase for trey lance prior to the draft?
  • No Big Sky football this fall
we are seeing the sun today so keeping fingers crossed. First day our air quality wasn’t in the unhealthy range by the afternoon.
  • No Big Sky football this fall
feels like we should be heading to Reno for the causeway!
  • Endowments
Here’s an example of the endowment talk there (edited to California schools:

What each school is known for in the Big Sky for football

-Cal Poly- Academics (very smart football players)

-Sac State- yellow track around their football

    - UC Davis- Rich Bastards

Pretty sure this list is solid but where am I wrong and right?

I pointed out we had 15 all academics at the 6th ranked public university while the smart guys at Poly had 5 (and they’re not in the top 100)
  • Will UCD cut any sports ?
from Wikipedia, Long Beach lasted one year after George Allen died. Former Raider, Willie Brown, took over that last year. I think a combination of state budget cuts, title IX and lack of fans (after Allen) did them in
  • No Big Sky football this fall
Our players were sent home earlywhen it was looking more and more like no fall (and practicing without a ball against trash cans seemed like a waste). That was a cost saving since we didn’t have to house or feed them before school started. We do still have 8-10 kids housed who would have had to return to not too stable environments. I think we sometimes forget some of our players are coming from areas and situations that are very challenging.
