  • JT O'Sullivan interviewed in article in Guardian about life as a journeyman NFL QB.
harbaugh/johnson was at the Toomey -> their first visit to davis. the game i was referring to was the first year at Aggie Stadium. Harbaugh had left for Stanford then. 2007 was the 49-46 epic win; USD was coached by Ron Caragher. 2006 we beat them 37-27 in the first game at the Toom.

that USD game at Aggie Stadium was one of the most exciting games we’ve had (along with Idaho State OT, and UNI playoff). Johnson was electric leading them to last minute twinning TD......until Matt Engel led the long late second winning drive ! That was their first season post Harbaugh.
  • Austin Peay vs Central Arkansas tonight 8/29
North Dakota State is playing central Arkansas also. Their only fall game. Maybe a showcase for trey lance prior to the draft?

we are seeing the sun today so keeping fingers crossed. First day our air quality wasn’t in the unhealthy range by the afternoon.

feels like we should be heading to Reno for the causeway!

Here’s an example of the endowment talk there (edited to California schools:

What each school is known for in the Big Sky for football

-Cal Poly- Academics (very smart football players)

-Sac State- yellow track around their football

    - UC Davis- Rich Bastards

Pretty sure this list is solid but where am I wrong and right?

I pointed out we had 15 all academics at the 6th ranked public university while the smart guys at Poly had 5 (and they’re not in the top 100)
  • Will UCD cut any sports ?
from Wikipedia, Long Beach lasted one year after George Allen died. Former Raider, Willie Brown, took over that last year. I think a combination of state budget cuts, title IX and lack of fans (after Allen) did them in

Our players were sent home earlywhen it was looking more and more like no fall (and practicing without a ball against trash cans seemed like a waste). That was a cost saving since we didn’t have to house or feed them before school started. We do still have 8-10 kids housed who would have had to return to not too stable environments. I think we sometimes forget some of our players are coming from areas and situations that are very challenging.

EWU guy. I think a bit of an inferiority complex.

Movie - I have been there. Good food. I tend to forget about it even though it’s only 2 miles or so from our house. Golf course was a dump, but I could zip over there for a quick nine holes and not be missed at work!

I tend not to comment on Facebook with solid information like this -> I think it might be forbidden!! Easier to just scroll on by. A week ago someone was wondering why our COVID numbers in Livermore were so much higher than the rest of the Tri-Valley. Usual non-fact finger pointing. I mentioned our Hispanic population is at least twice our neighbors and they are being infected at SEVEN times the rate as whites and Asians. Boy, I got some heated replies implying racism. I was just stating data.
  • Endowments
I was being sarcastic. There are a couple guys on this FCS Facebook page always harping on our Huge amount of cash and how we can EASILY move up. Bring up our endowment constantly as if it’s all going into football.
  • Endowments
is this question inspired by the FCS Facebook page? There’s a moderator there constantly harping on our Ivy-like endowment and, hence, our huge cash buck for football. How we can just write a check to move to FBS. You know, just like the Ivy schools!

When I talked to them , they just said ‘credit’ but no specifics about spring or next fall. I chose credit. Hope to use it sooner (basketball?) rather than later.

BTW, I think he said season tickets were at about 50% of previous year, not surprising since the big push normally comes in February and March.

he’s a pretty bright kid when it comes to social media and developing related online courses. Seems like the transfer here worked out well for his future.

last spring they waived 5 to play 4 when they didn’t count the truncated seasons as a year of play. For spring sport seniors it can be tricky. You have to be making academic progress for eligibility, but you add three quarters that you didn’t plan for. So you’ll see some double majors or kids trying to get into a grad program. Football in spring wouldn’t face that. But, you’re right - if some play, and some don’t it will be a mess. And if the P5 play fall, that will really disrupt things. You might see more FCS to FBS transfers like Sac’s Thomson coming.

I’m implying that spring would count as a year of play. Otherwise I think they’d have to grant another year like they did with spring sports. Spring sports are mostly partial scholarships so they have a little more wiggle room. Football, especially at FBS, would be a nightmare

I wonder what ‘spring’ means? Seems like they would need to play March-April to give players time to recover for a ‘normal’ camp in August. Fun times practicing in Cheney or Missoula in February!

I think rolling over a year of eligibility for everyone would have really effected programs for the next several years. People tend to focus on the seniors getting another year, but it’s everyone. How can you recruit next season’s freshman class, when you have a full freshman class in house? There are only so many slots available.
  • Big Sky Virtual Kickoff July 23-24
I’m pretty sure there would be no visiting fans. 26 days from kickoff and no practice start date yet? That’s not happening
