  • Week 2: UC Davis @ University of San Diego
2008 and 2010 we had 6:05 kickoffs, one in September one in November. Perfect conditions for football and I remember their endzone fairly full with students. Not so the last two trips.

if you were the USD AD, and saw no fans in the stands (some in the shade above the stadium) wouldn’t you think on scheduling night games in September? I get the Pioneer league games since teams need to get back East but not for preseason. We played night games here before, once in mid November. Last two years have been miserable

I’m making the trip. Last time I went on a trip like this was 2018 Montana, so hopefully history repeats.

I’m not sold on Weber. Offense and QB are suspect. Got exposed in playoffs. I think this version of Ags and HR brings back a win

that Sac game changed fast. Dixie won’t be a pushover. Beware the Morman redshirts!

I was pleasantly surprised how we shut them down. They had 330 yards but over 100 was after we had 46-7 lead and emptied the bench. I’m still a little concerned about run defense. Seemed like big gaps there, unless they had to abandon the run game.

I liked the agressive approach early ( flea flicker, 2 point tries) - set a tone that we weren’t going to take our foot off the throttle. Helps to have a kicker to kick it out the end zone and eliminate big special teams play.

Other minor nit….Hunter had a couple forced passes that could have been a disaster against good DBs. He avoided those v Tulsa.

Home opener with big crowd and good chance to be 3-0? Good time to be an Ag

I checked the box score from 2019. Game time temp was 82, and I wilted. Tomorrow’s forecast? 82

2019 we went up 14-0 right out the chute and had them on the ropes, and in a position to get them out of their game plan. Then they ran back the kickoff to get back to 14-7 and it was a game. Need to get ahead and don’t let up

70 is correct; 64 travel for BSC games
  • Opening Day 2021 - @ Tulsa

the players will be fine - it’s the old guys like me in the stands that’s a concern
  • Week 2: UC Davis @ University of San Diego
I was thinking QB was the guy we saw in 2019, but it looks like spring was his first starting role. Had 2 INT in every game but one (where he had 1). They’ve had good possession WRs in the past Taft could get open, and often a speed guy that could hurt you when they took shots

good point. That was the year we were up on #3 North Dakota state something like 24-3 at half, and lost in the waning seconds.

USD always scares me, especially down there. Their offense looks very similar to the Sochor offense, with a lot of play action, passes in the flat to RB/TE, and stout run game. Defending the run is crucial. Also, no big plays. 2019, we score easy first two possessions and stop them cold on their first two. Up 14-0 and cruising, right? Long kickoff return for TD and it’s a ball game. Forecast has moved up to 84, which is warm for SD (and similar to 2019)

beat UOP in 78 31-14 (coach caddis fired end of season). Beat them in 82, 23-22 (coach Toledo fired at end of season). Bob Cade survived the 86 loss.

2006 we beat Montana State 45-0; that was a shocking result . That was a playoff team that beat Colorado two weeks prior.

I think it was Mandeville at TE; Fortner was mid 70’s.

Trivia : what future NFL head coach QB’d the Tiigers that night? Raider fans might know.
  • FCS Polls Week 1
they had 9 suspended. 6 for the game (4 starters, 3 on D) and 3 for half the game. not sure if the others sitting out were significant players or not.
