It's going to eventually be an imposing front line.
  • 2019-20 MBB
Yeah, you would think there would be plenty of mid-major teams willing to come on out to CA for a couple of games. I do wonder what the financials are like in this type of tournament.

Interesting place for the ags to travel to. Looks like some winnable games (without doing any digging whatsoever).

NAU game is on Dec 4 at Flagstaff per the N.AZ. website.

Yeah, and so is Shaw, so the enterprise had some of the details wrong.

I would guess that at least 2 players red-shirt, maybe 3. Adebayo seems the most likely. Not sure about the rest. Big guys are sometimes red-shirted not because they don't have the talent but you'd rather have the player at age 23 after his body has fully developed than at 18. I think I also read that Murphy is on the younger side for a freshman so it wouldn't surprise me if he sits and works out a year. Of course, we need size, so who knows.

That's interesting. We hosted NA last year so I would have thought we owe them a trip to their place.

It wouldn't surprise me if Lily and/or Jones (6-3 from Scottland) sit next year. We'd still have Stobbart, Gibbs (also coming back from injuries if I remember correctly) and Konrad up front. Now that I write that out, maybe we need either Lilly or Jones to play for depth. Then the following year we add in whoever redshirted plus 6-6 Svanholm. Now that is the depth of size that we need to compete outside of the BW.

    We'll definitely be going!

This is very cool!!! My wife's family is all big USC fans/alumni (including both her sisters being in the Trojan band). Can't wait.
  • 2019-20 WBB
Some players will definitely have to grow into new roles, and new players will need to step up, but I'd be shocked if weren't at the top of the BW again next year.

New Enterprise article HERE. Some highlights:

    • "Gone are first-string, back-court mates T.J. Shorts and Siler Schneider, frontline reliables A.J. John and Garrison Goode and reserves Jonah Underwood and Colin Russell." ***Not sure this is accurate about Underwood. I haven't seen anything about him leaving.
    • "UCD has men like fourth-year bombardier Rogers Printup, second-season swingman Caleb Fuller plus guards Damion Squire, Gio Nelson, Stefan Gonzalez and Cameron Ba back in the fold." ***He lists Nelson as returning, which we know isn't correct as he's already transferred to a JC, but he doesn't list Shaw as returning.
    • "sharpshooter Joe Mooney and paint prowler Matt Neufeld figure to be two big pieces of the Aggie puzzle."
    • Loyala-Chicago game will be in Chicago, and we welcome Loyola Marymount and Northern Illinois to Davis (good home games for the Ags!). Add @Utah and @USF. Shaping up to be a good OOC.
  • 2019-20 MBB
We might get return trips from UT Arlington and Texas A&M CC as part of the classic. Maybe.
  • Yanez tranfers to Oregon
    Per http://www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/current/transfer-terms:
One-time transfer exception: If you transfer from a four-year school, you may be immediately eligible to compete at your new school if you meet ALL the following conditions:

You are transferring to a Division II or III school, or you are transferring to a Division I school in any sport other than baseball, men's or women's basketball, football (Football Bowl Subdivision) or men’s ice hockey.
  • No men's basketball end of season "banquet"?
That's a really strange development (MBB not having a banquet). I would hope that it wasn't done because of a lack of on-court success last year. These seniors have given it all for this program and deserve to be congratulated by the fans/supporters, regardless of last years record.

As for the Berkeley WBB job, that might be too good to pass up. I'd love to think that Jen and her family are lifetime Aggies, but as you said, it'll be a lot more $$$ and still close to home. But, I was nervous when Simpson retired and that turned out well. so if (or when) we lose Jen, hopefully they have next great Aggie coach in waiting.
  • The Fate of the Grad
I loved the versatility of the Grad. When I was in school, 8 for 1 Friday night was a staple. When we moved back to town, the Grad hosted a lot of little league/soccer/volleyball/softball get togethers. Than as the kids grew up, we'd always go to the Grad for big Aggie games, either pre-game or to watch away games. The kids got a little emotional when I told them it was closing. Fortunately, they are both back in town for a few weeks so I'm sure we'll have one last hurrah.
  • The Fate of the Grad
yeah I’ve also heard that it’s been years since they made any profits. Going to miss the old place. Lots of good memories.

I'm not concerned about next year based mostly on the confidence in the coaching staff. They'll put the players in positions to perform at their peak.

Having said that, we definitely need players to step up in their roles. Replacing Kourtney at the point will be the biggest concern. Trpcic is the obvious choice, as she's had two productive years at D1 Albany, and sat and learned the Aggie system last year. The stats certainly point to her as someone who can step right in, but Kourtney had a knack for making a big play at the right time (big shot or big pass). We'll have to wait and see if Trpcic has that same quality.

The Ags were incredibly efficient last year from deep, mostly due to the twins step up in 3 point shooting accuracy. Kourtney went from 35% to 44% from the arc, and Karly went from 32 to 43%, from their junior to senior years. That's an incredible leap. Not saying we have to have that proficiency again next year from our starting backcourt, but we will need shooters who can keep teams from zoning us and sagging in on our bigs. McKeown started off hot, but ended up only shooting 20% from 3 during conference play. She needs to be a consistent threat. Of course, Bessolo is our most gifted long distance returner, as long as she continues to be selective with her shots. Early on in her career she'd shoot as soon as she touched the ball...she was more patient last year and needs to continue that trend. I'm also hoping that Hall works on extending her range. She is such a gifted player, and you can see the qualities of a good shooter, but teams in conference (and especially the BWT) were daring her to shoot from deep. Oh, and Song is back, too. I loved the way she plays, very unselfish, great wing defense, and a good shot when she takes it. She'll be another critical piece. I usually think most of the freshman will redshirt, but we may see one or two contribute. Overall, I think this team is the favorite again to win the BW.

Just saw this on twitter. Clearly size was something that Coach Gross wanted more of. If we are going to be able to compete with the top tier teams, we definitely need depth in the post.
  • Bad press for the Band-Uh!
I hope not, but that's certainly a possibility. In the past, the Band has split the graduation duties with the University Concert Band. Not sure if that's still done.
