A couple of highlights from last night. First Manjon got two impressive breakaway dunks. He can really get up there for his size. But the best dunk of the night was from Adebayo. He made a nice move along the baseline and slammed home one of the best dunks from an Aggie in several years. Then in the second half he was all alone on a breakaway and pretty much air balled a dunk. But he didn’t give up as he raced back on defense and skied way above the rim to swat a layup out of bounds. That whole sequence got the bench and Les laughing with amazement. Once Adebayo gets more court time he will be an exceptional player.

Glad they are doing these free promotions. Makes it a lot easier to go even when you are expecting a lopsided game.
  • WBB: William Jessop (9-4) at UCD (4-8) 2 pm Wednesday, January 1st
ok. Hopefully she gets back soon. She’s a good defender and can hit the big shot too

Good scrimmage heading into BW play

No Sophia Song? Hopefully not a big deal

I wouldn't care if we ever scheduled NM again...nasty program...BlueGoldAg

I just watched part of the game on-demand. Totally agree, not a very disciplined team and a bit dirty and I'd rather not see them again. Plenty of other quality programs out there to schedule.

As for the Ags, the effort has been there for the most part. Big teams are always going to give us trouble, but you have to love the determination. I'm kind of tired of the moral victories, but hopefully it helps us win in the BW. Assuming we have no difficulties with Holy Names, we'll end the OOC at 6-10, which is about right considering all the new pieces that have to fit together. The VMI and Portland games were the only two that, at the beginning of the season, I hoped/thought we would win.

And just to point out, still no Gehrke, even on the bench, and no minutes for Printup. Not that either are key cogs, but they do provide depth and, in the case of Gehrke, these OOC games would have provided some developmental time.

Edit: Well after some digging and with help from Google Translate, looks like Gehrke has left the team and joined Jamtland Basketball team in Sweden. I found this, now translated, tweet from 6 days ago: "I don't know very well what happened to him in NCAA but the Swedish promise Oliver Gehrke (‘00) returned to Jamtland (where his father trains) although he was injured in his first game.

Great picture of three all-time great Aggies. Too bad they couldn't witness a big upset. I just caught just the end and saw some pretty poor free throw shooting. Kind of ironic that the WBB team is struggling at the line (something they have traditionally been strong at) while the MBB, which usually struggles, is one of the best in the nation.

Ok here it is. Sorry for the bad quality.

it was kind of a side comment. SVP said “let’s head over to UC Davis, I’ve never been there, is it nice?” To which Steve simply said “no”. Most folks probably wouldn’t have paid much attention but it kind of pissed me off. They did include Marsh’s call of the game winner. I recorded the segment On my DVR so maybe I’ll just take a video of it and post that.

The game against LMU made Bad Beats last night on SVP SportsCenter (week late). Pretty good segment, except for the cohost “Stanford” Steve saying Davis is not a good place. Haven’t seen the clip online yet.

So going into conference play I don't see Les RSing anyone now. Only Ba has not played in 4 games.69aggie
So Harris and Murphy will redshirt this year (Harris will have 3 years left and Murphy a full four). Gehrke has been missing from the sidelines the last couple of games, after getting some decent playing time against the Pac-12 teams. I haven't heard what that's all about...it would be nice to have another 6'7" guy to plug in if Neufeld or Koehler get into foul trouble.

As for the height issues, yeah I'm sure Les would love to recruit multiple 6'10" high talent guys, but that's just not realistic for UCD. So you're left with either getting tall guys that you HOPE will develop, or more talented smaller guys and play small ball. And certainly the 3-pt line helps teams that have good guard play. Probably worth noting that the most accomplished D1 Aggie team ever ('16-'17) featured JT and Good at 6'7", and Chima at 6'6" as our bigs (John was listed at 6'8" but played mostly on the perimeter...both Georgie and Henn were 6'8" but neither played much during the BW season). I think we can compete in the big west with the size we have, but it does mean we have to play consistent team defense and the other aspects of the game (shooting primarily) have to be working well.

    Go Ags!

Have fun! I was hoping to make it there today but too many family obligations. Go Ags!
  • WBB: Aggies (4-6) at Pepperdine (5-3) 2 pm Thursday 12/19
Ugh...missed open layups, poor interior defense, lazy passes. Ags slept through that second half.
  • WBB: Aggies (4-6) at Pepperdine (5-3) 2 pm Thursday 12/19
Ags definitely the better and deeper team. Need to watch the stupid turnovers (and the rushed shots).

Looks like Stobbart is playing so whatever was up with her wasn't too big a deal. Ags up 10-2 early

Unusual starting time for a mid-week game. Go Ags!
  • WBB: Aggies (4-5) @ Minnesota (8-1) 11 am PT Sunday 12/15
For those of us who follow WBB, most/all of the women were at the men's game last night. Pretty sure I saw Stobbart in a walking boot. Not sure what happened or when, but clearly not a good development.
  • MBB: Loyola Marymount (5-5) @ UCD (4-8) 7 pm Monday 12/16
Good question about Printup. He was suited up and went through warm-ups last night with no obvious injury. It was also interesting last night that they went to Adebayo early and left Fuller on the bench for all but a few minutes (due mostly to Adebayo's foul trouble). Adebayo is a tough defender who guarded just about every one on the court last night so it was probably just a match up issue. This early season experience is really going to help his development. Also of note was no Gerhke (not even in street clothes on the bench). He got double digit minutes against Cal and Utah but nothing since.

What a fantastic finish. The last shot, or course was amazing but the comeback was just so exciting. I’m still shaking!!!
