Delayed response on this one. Very cool to see a kid from my Alma Mater with high accolades coming to UCD!
Blake Thorpe 6'3" TE/WR- Las Lomas HS in Walnut Creek. Go Knights!
Anyone know if he was recruited as a TE, or WR?
This is the most entertaining season I've followed (since '04). Every week from here on out we get to see if this program is for real. Constantly having to prove yourself is a powerful thing.
San Jose State is trash this year, and Spartan Stadium is an easy place to play. I don't care what Montana's record is this year, a win at Wa-Griz Saturday would be our 1st big boy win.
I don't give a crap what we are ranked. Beat Montana.
I'm going to go ahead and say it: we are are not a Top-10 team yet. But I'll take the cool ranking.
This is our first year being formidable opponent week-in and week-out since 2002.
and we are just getting started in terms of getting this program back to yearly conference dominance.
We got a LONG way to go this season - Montana and Eastern on the ROAD, and NAU and Sac at home. 4 teams that can and will beat us if the team starts marveling at the rankings. I'm sure Hawk has already started in on them.
One thing that stuck with me after the Stanford win in '05 was when Biggs was asked "what did you say to those guys before the game to get them to pull off an upset like this?" He was humble, he said he doesn't have to holler at these kids to get them motivated. They do that themselves just fine. He just gets the message across and lets them go.
I like it. Save the yelling for when you really need it.....like at halftime in Frisco.
Sounds like we are real lucky to have a guy like Jake at Davis. Hopefully he wants to stick around and coach (after he plays some pro ball). Sounds like the perfect candidate to keep in the Aggie family.
highly possible Hawkins get's snapped up by another program. — Polydad
I doubt it. Hawkins looks like he's having the time of his life building this program back and impacting kids at a school he is emotionally attached to. We all know its pretty special to do what you love, at a place you love. He's probably made good money over the years and is comfortable.
