Why do they need a scoreboard for a practice field ? So they can tell who's winning a fake game ? Someone on the sidelines with a timer and a notebook can accomplish the same thing more cheaply. Waste of money that scoreboard ! Saw the same deal at San Diego State.

Wait, I think I see the point now. If they have a scoreboard they can let youth teams play on the practice field instead of on the good field inside the stadium. Much easier cleanup after games because the fans just bring their own lawnchairs. All the cigarette butts and empty cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon will just be lying out in plain sight.

It also will have lights, two filming towers, new track and grass field adjacent to it so they can also practice on grass. Cal Poly current practice fields were a mile from the locker room. The new field is 100 yards from the locker room. Nice upgrade.

It’s time to relocate the tailgate lot and install the practice fields north of Aggie Stadium as was intended in the original renderings of the stadium, along with constructing a football HQ adjacent to the locker room facilities.

It looks like they want to do a bigger project. I believe they still hold a number of practices next to Toomey, on grass. I also think the athletic training facility is a high priority.

Offices for 2 or 3 teams?

Are there plans for this project? I thought that swimming had its own offices at the pool. Like to see the project plans.

CP just seems to have a lot of big givers for athletics which we don’t have. I would task Dr Blue to find out why that is so. We sure have a lot of academic giving- But not much for big athletic projects. If not for Bruce Edwards and the Schalls we would be close to zero. Do not have any idea as to why this is.

Field hockey wasn't cheap.

Yes, there are lights. Two filming towers and some additional branding still to be installed.

No, it is a synthetic field. There is a natural grass field just to the left in the center of the new track that is also available to them.

And the Doerr family donated the money for this? Unbelievable good fortune for poly!

The Doerr Family were the lead donars, but there were many others that contributed.

What was the cost of this project? Roughly

4.8 million, but it also included all new track (completely reconfigured) and field just adjacent to it. The Doerr Family Field included 140 yard field, lights, scoreboard, two filming towers and equipment shed.

Great job by the Cal Poly development team to get this done. Doerr was a fine football player at CP in the 60s and went on to become a successful tech giant in that industry. CP seems to achieve a lot more than we do when it comes to big donors for sports. I do not have any idea as to why. Good for them!
