Did anyone see the final score in the exhibition game against Cal? The Ags were down 1-0 at the half and Live Stats just shows that the game is over and the exhibition game scores are never shown on the official schedule.

They lost 2-0.

Dang...not a good start for the men's or the women's soccer teams so far this year.

Poly leads the Ags 2-0 at the half. Poly scored on two easy goals and the Ags misfired on their two best chances they had in the half. However, with 20 seconds to go in the half a Poly player got a yellow card which was reviewed on video by the referee and he changed the call to a red card on the Poly player and a yellow on the Aggie player so Poly is down to 10 for the second half.

I'm watching the game on the MW+ network and it is excellent...much, much better than what we've gotten used to seeing on ESPN+ especially the camera work and replays. Sound quality is excellent also.

Second red card sends another Poly player off in the 48th minute. Poly is now down to 9 players but still leads 2-0.

Ags get an own goal on a ball fired off the shin of a Poly player that ricocheted into the net in the 63rd minute. Poly still leads 2-1.

Ags finally get the equalizer at the 87:52 mark...2-2.

The game ends in a 2-2 draw. I don't think the Ags will be happy with a draw though with Poly playing down 2 players for 41 minutes of the second half yet the Ags couldn't get a W.

So we were playing against a team that was down 2 players, and who also scored an own goal, and we were only able to come home with a draw? That's not a good look.

The Ags are down 3-0 to Pacific in the first 12:41 of the game. The Aggie defense is very porous to say the least.

The Aggies stormed back in the second half when Gabriel Sanchez scored 3 goals in a 14 minute span to level the game and the Ags manage a 3-3 draw with Pacific. The Ags are now 0-1-2 on the season.

Pacific scored 3 goals in a 10 minute span early in the game and it looked like it would be a runaway for the Tigers. However, other than that brief explosion, the Ags pretty much dominated the match.

Oof...the Aggies got torched by Seattle 6-1 today and fall to 0-3-2 for the season. Next up for the Ags is a match against Washington on Saturday. UW is the reigning national champs.

What drop-off? UCD was 0 - 6 - 4 in last year's, preseason. UCD plays an almost exclusively West Coast preseason. Lots of very good soccer teams on the West Coast...even the "weaker teams are only weaker relatively.

Also probably an emotional hangover from coming so close to beating Stanford.

The WSOC program WAS on an ascending path until Tracy Joyner left, and gutted the roster AND recruiting class on her way out the door. This in addition to significant losses via graduation. The 6-8 players she took with her to Oregon have all contributed significantly,.either last year (seniors), this year, or both. After a rough 1st season, Oregon is off to a solid start this year, around that core of UCD transfers

Meanwhile, at Davis, Kat Mertz had to go with those returning players Joyner deemed not worthy of an invite to Oregon, as well as rebuild the 2025 recruiting class - very late - with whatever players were still available. For example, the Aggies had lost their entire back line and had no goalkeepers on the roster when Mertz was hired. The 2025 season results speak for themselves - 3-12-4 overall; 1-8-1 Big West. On the plus side, the Aggies played hard to the final whistle on a tough season.

This year, 8 of the 9 transfers she's brought in are consistently starting, as well as 1 of this year's freshmen. 3 other freshmen are getting significant time off the bench. Rebuilding, but I expect it's going to take another season or so to - hopefully - get back to where the Aggies were in Joyner's last season.

This preseason, Mertz is channeling Emma Hayes, looking at different starting and subbing combinations. All 3 keepers have started at least once. In the field, only 4 players have started every game, and the Aggies have played 21 of the 25 field players on the roster.

It's way too early to panic, or to debate whether Mertz is a longterm solution. I know after speaking to a few of the graduating seniors after Mertz was hired, that players were impressed with her. One of the graduates had attended ID camps that Mertz had hosted (while the player was in high school) and absolutely loved her approach. Wished she had remaining eligibility. So I'm optimistic, while remaining patient.
