    this makes me think... a fun spin on the aggie logo with the horse in the center would be cool (like an updated version of the old logo). I like the simple and clean look of the new CA logo, but an alt with gunrock would be cool.

    On Google (I searched UC Davis old horse logos) there shows a Block C/Small A logo with a horse head inside and what looks to be wheat stalks

    Apparently, the Patriot League denied Villanova's QB, Pat McQuaide's, ability to play for them this year:

    BILLINGS — In five full seasons as Montana State's head football coach, Brent Vigen has crafted a résumé that, frankly, few of his non-Power 4 contemporaries can match.

    The numbers speak for themselves:

    Vigen is 61-12 overall, a winning percentage of .836.
    He is 37-3 in Big Sky Conference games with three league titles.
    Vigen is 40-2 at Bobcat Stadium (including playoffs) and is yet to lose to a Big Sky opponent at home (20-0).
    The Bobcats are 12-3 in the postseason and have made three trips to the FCS national championship game under Vigen — culminating in last year's 35-34 OT win over Illinois State to capture the program's first title in 41 years.

    Would be cool to roll out Horsewheat helmets/jerseys and host a band tribute and reunion, sort of their own homecoming event. I would even put the invite out to any Marching Lumberjacks from Humboldt to join the fracas. They could jam on the field after the game and get a couple kegs, that would be epic!

    There should be a depth chart posted in about a week, in the game notes Also they usually have position reviews posted starting about now. I don’t know if they intend to this year.

    They have an offensive team preview posted. They don’t mention any names that were not on the spring roster. They used to do this by interviewing the position coaches who would sometimes mention newcomers. One of the points of interest is if any of the approximately 25 new players pop, but nothing about them.

    Herder makes good points about the Ags. A lot depends on the defensive play, and whether the new QB "hits."

    In my mind this team has the potential to go 11-1 (Montana @ home is important). IMO things are dependent on defense ppg (I group Special Teams in with D) and QB play/leadership.

    I'm noticing Davis will be ranked below Montana no matter what, until we get over the "hump" (the quarterfinal hump, consistently top-tier / blue chip program status, whatever you want to call it).

    Have to remember, we are new on the scene as far as perennial top-10 programs. Gotta earn it.

    I think this year's Defense will be better. I know, I know, we are going to miss Jacob Psyk, and I am not downplaying that. The hill that I am standing on is that we have outstanding young DL ascending and playing this year with a few very good returners. We will be bigger, explosive, and deeper along the front, and playing DL is not rocket science like breaking-in a new QB. The LB crew is equally solid and deep. The Cal transfer was good vs. pass but was not the impact player against the run that one would expect coming from the ACC. Porter is a potential all-American. 15 played most of the snaps last year and is solid. 44 played some last year in a reserve role and the other spot is likely TBD. Still, with Porter's injury last year, two guys played the bulk of the reps and one returns, while the other is replaced by an all-conference, proven dude. Corners are a year older and elite. Holy crap they are good, take the time to appreciate them this year. And there's some depth there. Safeties may be the question mark until Rex returns, but the Idaho transfer can play, along with a couple others on the back end. In all, the Defense will be better, I'm calling my shot.

    CP was in the exact same boat as Cleeland is now this time last year. Despite his size and his tendency to hold onto the ball too long, dude is getting paid to play at the next level up. We have the best QB braintrust in the nation with Plough and Shelton, one hell of an o-line coach, and an elite RB (a whole stable of them actually), an elite WR, and by all accounts, a tremendous Tight End room.

    We shall see on Special Teams. Keeping the kickoff in play, making field goals, and not getting punts blocked are all critical to success (duh).

    The Ags may be new on the Top 10 scene, but it feels good on paper. Like said, "Gotta earn it."

    When i see predictions of going 11-1 they are often based on running through the schedule and concluding Davis would be favored in 11 of the games. Unfortunately its harder than that. A team has to be much better than all of the opponents to go undefeated in those 11 games. If the team is 90% likely to win each game the odds are they’ll lose one.
  • Pacifico2

    I'm with you, the odds of a team playing that well for that many weeks is tough. Let's look at the schedule and prognosticate potential hazards:
    @PSU Probable cover & win
    @USD Probable cover & win
    @SMU Very unlikely to win
    Stetson Probably cover & win
    Montana Pick 'em. I like the home team and don't think the Griz are what they're ranked to be.
    EWU Trap game. Coming off a big win over the Griz, this can be a dicey proposition at home.
    @Southern Utah Potentially tougher than anticipated. They run the ball well but Ags are better.
    vs. UNC Probable cover & win
    @Weber State Trap game. Potential is there to be challenging.
    Utah Tech Probable cover & win
    @Idaho In most other years, this is a toss-up. I don't think the Vandals have their house in order
    Cal Poly Probable cover & win

    So, that all being said, I see Montana, EWU, and Weber State as the three potential losses, aside from Smoo. One can build a very strong case for 10-2 or 11-1 in my opinion. Anything less than 10 regular season wins would be surprising to me, but not fatal for the hopes of getting to Nashville whatsoever.

    Hopefully we have the muscle to stop the Griz running attack. They have an elite RB.

    Playmakers are a huge help, when a RB, WR, or return man can break one 60 or 80 yards in one gulp. Fisher can be one. Last year a solid Sack Man showed his impact.
