This is a nice game for us. NDSU is a good mid-major program. They went 27-8 last year and one of their loses was to at Davis 80-68. That was a good win for us early in the season. The big difference in the game was that the Bison shot a miserable 3-27 from beyond the arc compared to us going 8-16. Connor Sevilla had his one of his best games as an Aggie shooting 8 of 20 overall from the field including 6-7 from 3 and 4-4 from the line for 26 points.

If Sevilla can stay healthy this year he could have a great, final season for us but he'll also have to contend with the bigger players in the MW guarding him. He got off to a hot start last season but was slowed down by injuries later in the season and Big West teams started focusing on taking him out of the game and playing him very physical. I imagine that the MW teams may try and defend him like that this season also.

Agree on the demand for posts. Don’t agree on the roster. You win with age and experience. The inbound guys have neither and the international players always struggle on the defensive end with physical play. The inability to bring in anyone that has had success at any level of college basketball is alarming and points to some reputation/culture issues (and a lack of money). I don’t see this group as an upgrade from last year and the comp has gone up a notch.

CBSSN and FS2 are in a lot of households but almost nobody tunes in to those channels. And with how they stack events you usually lose half the game to the truck race or frisbee contest that went long prior to tip. This is a downgrade from ESPN+ in a lot of respects.

I’d be fine with this group + Wilson and cooper. But truly not feeling hopeful with the step up in play.

Gut says we have a mediocre BW roster about to enter MW play.

Are we full now or is there any room for additions?

Feels like there might be room for another, maybe a walk-on. Clearly a lot of unknowns with this group.

I always liked the MWC format over the Anaheim-era Big West format (all neutral* site, including byes on both Men's and Women's compared to no byes for Men's). Glad they're keeping it very similar so that Aggie fans can get minimum two games in Vegas.

Yeah that's a bit disappointing. We really enjoyed the full basketball days with multiple Aggie games. Oh well...

I'm well aware we're in the Mountain West, but I guarantee I'm going to go to the Big West website out of habit at least 4 times during the season when I want to look at where we rank in conference.

UC Davis men's basketball head coach Jim Les announced the addition of eight newcomers for the 2026-27 season, a class that spans six countries as the Aggies prepare for their first year in the Mountain West Conference.

The group brings backgrounds from France, Greece, Germany, Austria, Australia and Poland along with recent stops at Tennessee, San Francisco, Omaha and CSUN, joining a returning core of seven Aggies from last season's 19-14 squad.

"This group checks every box: size, skill, athleticism, and they're walking into a special moment for our program as we begin our inaugural Mountain West season," said Les. "Our staff is excited to get to work and build this team."

Clarence Massamba, a 6-5, guard from Paris, arrives after spending the 2025-26 season at Tennessee, where he appeared in 12 games for a Volunteers team that reached the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight and earned a spot on the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. Before Knoxville, Massamba came up through the AS Monaco organization, logging 29 games with the club's under-21 side and three appearances with its top-division senior team in 2024-25. He prepped at The Rock School in Gainesville, Fla., as a sophomore and junior, where he earned all-state recognition and helped the program to a league title.

Veniamin Abosi, a 6-6, 225-pound guard/forward from Heraklion, Greece, joins the Aggies after two seasons at San Francisco. Abosi appeared in 24 games for the Dons in 2025-26, averaging 5.0 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 40.4 percent from three-point range, highlighted by a 16-point, nine-rebound outing in a win over Portland. A product of the Olympiacos junior program in Piraeus, he represented Greece at both the under-16 and under-18 levels, averaging 9.7 points at the 2023 FIBA U18 European Championship.

Julian Margrave, a 6-10, 230-pound forward from Louisburg, Kan., comes to Davis after spending the 2025-26 season at Omaha, where he earned NABC Honors Court recognition for his work in the classroom. Margrave began his college career with three seasons at South Alabama and prepped at New Hampton School in New Hampshire after earning all-state honors in Kansas.

Aleks Szymczyk, a 6-10, 250-pound center from Frankfurt, Germany, gives the Aggies a familiar face in the frontcourt after facing UC Davis as a member of CSUN last season. Szymczyk appeared in 26 games for the Matadors in 2025-26 and shot a career-best 51.9 percent from the field. He began his career at Florida and spent the 2024-25 season at Charlotte before arriving in Northridge.

Nnadalu Noble, a 6-10 forward from Vienna, Austria, arrives after a postgraduate year at Hoosac School in New York and a season at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, two of the top prep programs in the Northeast. Noble developed with the Vienna D.C. Timberwolves, debuting in Austria's top professional division as a teenager, and helped the club's under-19 team to a national medal.

Caspian Jones, a 6-7 forward from Phoenix, joins the program following a postgraduate year at CATS Academy Boston. As a senior at St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Jones averaged 17.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists while competing in Arizona's Open Division, the state's top classification.

Koby Moir, a 6-2 guard from Adelaide, Australia, spent 2026 as the starting point guard for the South Adelaide Panthers of NBL1 Central, running a senior men's professional league team as an 18-year-old. Moir represented Australia at the 2025 FIBA U17 Oceania Cup, earning a silver medal, and received the Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award at Basketball Without Borders Asia in Singapore.

Julian Dabrowski, a 6-9 forward/center from Warsaw, Poland, developed in the Legia Warszawa academy and was part of Legia teams that captured back-to-back Polish league championships in 2025 and 2026. Dabrowski averaged 12.4 points and 6.0 rebounds for Legia's second team in 2025-26, won a Polish under-19 club national title in March and earned a bronze medal with Poland at the 2024 FIBA U18 European Championship Division B.

I think we have some potential. Spent more time looking at clips of the new recruits and they definitely seem like a bit of wildcards (at least for the cbb transfers) but have big upside.

i was just talking about the whole transfer thing and how much i missed the old Big West where you got to see guys for 4 years. Now, its more like get to know them for 4 months.

I think think this is exciting time for the men's basketball program. We have a lot of unknowns with 8 new players coming in but it appears that we certainly have put an emphasis on getting bigger and stronger as we head into the MWC this year. This is the most size we have ever had.

I would imagine that it will take some time for this team to gel together and the pieces begin to fall in place as a cohesive, competitive unit with good chemistry. There will be some growing pains but we have some solid veterans that will help lead the team in Sevilla, Chappell and Fagbemi and, although he's only a sophomore, Stokes will bring the toughness he showed last season as he worked his way into a starter as a true freshman. Suljanovic made good progress adapting to the physicality of the game last year also and I expect him to continue to improve on both ends of the floor with one year of play under his belt now. It will be fun to watch this team grow and develop as the season progresses.

Looks like no surprises to the list of newcomers. I'm excited to see how this teams comes together. Hopefully everyone comes into the season healthy (no more bike accidents, please!) Feels like this team is definitely built different than past teams. Over at least the past 10 seasons, every team has been led in scoring by a guard (Seville, TY, Pepper x3, Manjon, Mooney, Shorts x2, and Lemar). I guess maybe Seville might lead again this year, but it certainly looks like we will be getting a larger percentage of our points from the wings (Stokes, Suljanovich, Massamba, Abosi). And at least we have bigs that have some experience (Musgrave and Szymczyk, along with Chappell, or course). Go Ags!!
