Spain advances to the semifinals with a 2-1 win over Belgium.

We were in Boston and considered going to a game, but for $1500 per ticket, no thanks. I was thinking we could spend up and pay 200-300 per ticket but not even close- lol. It was interesting while on the Old Town Trolley bus in Boston and went right by the Paraguay team hotel and saw the fans cheering for team bus, as they loaded up for the Germany game. We later watched the game in a BBQ joint and saved about $5000.

I saw that the ticket prices dropped significantly after the USA and Mexico were eliminated but still expensive.

I previously commented about the negative effect of Trump influencing the FIFA president to overturn the red card given to the American striker and how it outraged the teams and fans of other countries. Bob Dunning wrote a column about Trump putting his thumb on the scale and one of the comments from a reader of his article was very telling about what fans from other countries were feeling about the USA.

The reader wrote that she and her husband watched the USA vs Belgium game in a pub in Sidney, British Columbia, with about 60 other Canadians and not a single one of them was rooting for the Americans. Of course, Trump had already pissed off most Canadians with tariffs and his comments about making them our "51st state" among other insults so this was just more salt on the wound.

The semi-final matches are now set and these should be some great games between these 4 world soccer powers:

Spain vs France at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 14.
Argentina vs England at 12 noon Wednesday, July 15.

Spain shutout the favorite, France, 2-0 on Tuesday and, in one of the greatest soccer matches I've ever seen, Argentina came back from a late 1-0 deficit to break England's heart by scoring in the 87th and 93rd minutes. This sets up a monster game for the championship between Spain and the defending champs, Argentina, on Sunday. This is soccer at it's very best!

my expectations for England-Argentina were pretty low after the first 10 minutes of overly-physical play, but once that got out of the way it was an epic game. Especially the second half. What a finish.

Argentina looked like crap! Spain rocked it!

Spain wins their second World Cup beating Argentina 1-0.

Spain dominated the game but the the Argentina goalkeeper, Emilio Martinez, had 11 saves which is a new record for a World Cup final to keep Argentina hanging around even though they played the final 30 minutes of additional time down a player after Enzo Fernádez got sent off after receiving his second yellow card in the 93rd minute.

Great scene and fun atmosphere today out on G. Street. I was able to make it out to watch the game....something I'd been meaning to do. They should do this for big road Aggie football games as well.

I was at a bar in the north bay and it was torturous!! It seemed like Spain should have had 10 goals lol
