The Anteaters are still locked in a battle for first place with Hawai`i so they will be taking this game very seriously. Plus, after losing to UCD at the UCU, you’ve gotta know that Irvine will be out for revenge. In that game, the Anteaters leading scorer, Jurian Dixon, got his points, 16 to be exact, but the rest of the UCI starters were held in check by what might have been the Aggies best defensive effort of the season. They also did a great job on the boards, allowing only 9 offensive rebounds and allowing their big man, 7’ Elijah Chol only one rebound of any kind. Chol was injured in the Hawaii game, however, and missed five games of which Irvine lost three. He’s back, but might not be 100% as he only played 9 minutes vs. Cal Poly. Niko Rocak had a great game scoring 17 points, pulling down 6 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. Carl Daugherty, Jr. added 14 points thanks to 3 of 4 shooting from trey range. This Saturday, though, Irvine will know that Conner Sevilla’s output against them in Davis was far under his best as Conner only made one field goal and 5 points. Hope he’s able to play.
We'll likely be playing short-handed without several starters which is a shame given that this is a nationally televised game. I hope we come up with a Herculean effort and keep the game within reach so we don't end up playing catch up from 10-15 down most of the game.
I remember a number of years back when we broke the LONG losing streak vs UOP which was televised on NBC Bay Area. Harden and Payne were both out, but we somehow pulled it out.
It's going better than expected. I sure hope they can keep this up. The Anteaters are being very generous in turning the ball over. I don't think we can count on that for the whole game.
