Time to start this thread. Lots of positives with some changes coming next season. Losing qb but keeping fisher and gbatu. Pretty smooth schedule on paper.

RB Kai Acia proved himself as deserving of PT. Nice addition.

"Top 20" 2024 HS tape for Treynor Cleeland. He played LB, which shows, as he's not afraid of contact. Shows some mobility, sturdy build, and has some throws I don't think some of our recent 'game managers' of recent years make as easily.

So, If I'm reading the current roster as it stands:
    QBs on Roster are
#5 Treynor Cleeland (will be RFr.)
#14 Axel Eason (will be RFr.)
#17 Damon Wrighster (will be RSo.)
#18 Xzavior Guess (will be RFr.)

After Pinnick left did Wrighster take himself out of the portal?
  • Riveraggie

Wrighster is officially in the portal. He posted the notification that the school has notified the NCAA on Jan 4rh

There's a coach Plough presser floating around out there. Anyone have a link?

Where are the biggest holes on Defense?

    DE Psyk
    ILB Rutchena
ILB Potentially Porter Connors (filled by RS FR Sievers in '25)
S Stanley (who filled in for Rex Connors at one Safety)
    S Batson

Who else are we losing that started or saw significant time?

Happy to hear that our NIL offer to Caden was on par with NIL at top of the FCS. Important for the future.

Plough also mentions that a ton of p4 qb's have reached out to play here next season.

A highly touted Cal QB is in the portal.

Tim Plough is one of the best coaches in college football at any level. He has the Aggies on the fast track of being a consistent top 5 program in the FCS each year. Any player would be hard pressed to find a more personally supportive culture for their development and growth not only as an athlete but also as an excellent student, teammate and human being.

I continue to be very impressed by coach Plough. His thoughts on the future of football at all levels are really informative and show the depth of his knowledge of the game. Hard to believe that any player speaking to him would not be very impressed. His statement on the Conners has me very hopeful that a successful settlement of this unfortunate situation is possible.

One of the major losses on defense is Riddick. Big Sky All-Conference (First Team)
  • Pacifico2

Definitely, that's another one. Basically losing half the defense. Safeties play a HUGE role in Coombs' scheme. Will likely need some transfer help there, portal or JUCO unless the young bucks will be ready. Someone mentioned that the young Safeties are 5'10" and below, need some length at times back there, although Rex and the Caden Dowler kid at MSU are both right around 6'0".

I have zero concerns about the QB position. In Plough and Shelton we trust. New challenge for those guys but the talent is there and I'll predict we add a guy with some upper level experience.

Like I said on one of the other threads, last night gave me a lot of hope for the future. UC Davis WILL win a National Championship, it is only a matter of time. Don't screw it up by jumping to the Mountain West too early, I don't want to be chasing the Bucked Up LA Bowl, The Rate Bowl, The New Mexico Bowl, or the Snoop Dawg Arizona Bowl Presented by Gin & Juice by Dre & Snoop, with all due respect. The Hawaii Bowl, maybe. The Pop Tart Bowl, sign me up. I'd rather sit around bitching about the guys we lose in the portal every year and compete for a National Championship.

Great to get some finality on Cofield from Plough.

I’m encourage that Marquis Bell is on the spring roster, He played well until he broke his arm while playing in a cast. He is 6’ 205. He was playing corner, but is probably more of a safety.

Volume again way too low on this interview, I have my smartphone all the way on high and later in the interview can barely hear him.

Would the ubiquitous today Lavaliers / Lapel / feather Mics solve this ongoing problem?

I stream it on my tv and the volume is better than on my phone. But you can also turn on closed captions and that helps.

What’s the news on Ty Richardson?
  • Pacifico2

Having finally watched the presser for myself, the mics DID suck once again. Thank goodness for the captions that display the questions/subject matter.

What jumped out to me were Plough’s list of QB successes and the competitive nature of Davis’ offer to Pinnick. The later shows the University’s commitment to football. Rocco and his team not only spearheaded those efforts and mobilized resources, but then Rocco was with Rex Connors out at the FCS combine deal. Plough typically expresses his appreciation for the admin and they are proving to be real winners. We will win a lot of games with that commitment.

As far as the QB development piece, great track record. That development is difficult to quantify in the “stay or go” decision making process for teenage boys/their families seeing dollar signs. Call me a conspiracy theorist, and SailorGabe might not like this, but Plough mentioned repeatedly “___ player joined us in June and accomplished ___”. At the very least, that cracks the door to the possibility of a transfer QB coming on late and competing for the job, even if it’s for one season as Cleeland/Eason develop.

I doubt Rasor or Wrighster are back, just my hunch and could be wrong.

"I doubt Rasor or Wrighster are back, just my hunch and could be wrong."

I was going to review what I saw in the presser, but it sounded like Rasor and Wrighster were so far back in the depth chart that the coaches told them the options they have. The coaches weren't kicking these two quarterbacks out. It's just realistic to move on elsewhere if you want any significant playing time.
  • AggieFinn

Based on the offers that Rasor had... it's even conceivable that Davis is playing against him next season if he wins the job.
