Is there a tracker that shows the offers? I might have missed this. Thank you!

17 you are right on the money. With these agents swooping down on these 19-20 year old kids and their PARENTS, how can the kid ever resist these big money offers? Think of the incredible pressure from moms who want to move to a better home and dads who don’t know if their jobs will last. How can a kid even think about a “quality education” at that point over the needs of his family? But also think of the coaches like Plough. Why recruit a young player and then coach him to a higher level only to see the kid opt for the portal? Yeah, I can see a young Plough now thinking that he’s doing the good thing by helping a kid like CP economically, but I think that eventually that will wear thin and the former good thing becomes a drag emotionally and psychologically. “Why the hell am I doing this”? He is getting nothing from his efforts nor is his team. Surely this has become a no win situation for a majority of FCS schools.
I think that the NCAA must be slowly becoming aware of this situation. And they could have some positive effect by giving FCS schools some breaks on eligibility and scholarship issues. And on other issues that I am not aware of. Otherwise FBS and low budget FBS teams are going to have a very hard time surviving in this environment. Sorry for the rant. This is very sad.

Vargas seems to be taking visits to LSU Oregon Cal and Michigan state vis his twitter account. Good luck to him those are some great programs. Definitely can't compete with those squads NIL wise especially the first two

LSU makes some sense as there were Ole Miss rumblings that started around the halfway point of the season. Those guys are now the coaches and front office staff at LSU. Can someone say “tampering”. My money is on his representatives. That’s how it works folks.

69Aggie, this whole deal could wear a coach out. I believe Plough at his word and this crap the NCAA has created is what it is. He will continue to recruit and develop, he’ll hire outstanding young coaches, and while we’ll lose kids that really hurt or hit close to home, at the end of the day he’s still coaching his dream job for all the reasons he preaches from the pulpit every time he’s got a mic in his face.

    Go Ags!

Like Cal for Vargas. Plough used to coach there, but they had the UW RB on a visit today.

there is a distinction between parents providing advice, wisdom, and access to facts so their kid can reach an informed personal decision and parents who are yanking the marionette strings to grift off their kid. The latter is as shameful as Joe Jackson.

Teams are just going to have to train QBs in 1 year cycles.

I don't want to be that cynical, but until the NCAA fixes this crap you may be correct. This is getting so far out of hand.

This might be a hot take but I think losing Vargas is a bigger deal than CP. CP is the fantastic and probably could have been the best QB in franchise history. However, I bet over the next decade we have QBs even better than him…. Vargas felt like an FBS RB on our team and that’s proving to be true by his offers.

I doubt CP gets looks from schools of that caliber and if he does, no way he’s starting.

With that said, I don’t blame anyone for taking the money. That’s an insane payday for that age. The likelihood that any of these guys make the NFL is low, so if you are going to take a desk job in 4 years, might as well take half a mil (or more) in your late teens…

I agree. CP has an “it factor” that was cool to watch but Vargas has Sunday traits to me. Slightly disappointing because I think this group would’ve gotten a national championship had it been old transfer rules. Plough’s first recruiting class was a masterpiece offensively.

They need to train and play 2 qbs a year. Can’t start every year from scratch as far as playing experience. They should add a qb coach who has played the position. The offensive coordinator can stay as offensive coordinator
They will miss Pinnick more than Vargas. Whether someone is an NFL prospect is not the way to judge a college football player’s impact. Some of the most dominant college football players don’t have significant pro careers. Pinnick was potentially 400 yards of total offense, he was the #1 focus for opponents.

I do wonder how the rest of the team takes this kind of news. I know it's a different mentality these days about getting paid and business opportunities, but I think I'd still feel pretty slighted by guys who think they're above the rest of the team. It's a different situation for grad transfers. I guess we're just in a different era of college football now and have to get used to it.

I think the other QBs that entered don’t get picked up and end up back on the team.

Although I do not like players leaving, I cannot fault players for transferring for the money or for the opportunity to play somewhere else (if you have been riding the bench).

The transfer portal and NIL has changed the way we recruit (and re-recruit) each year, I wonder if this will change how coaches coach going forward. For example at the QB position, should we have played other QBs last year as an "insurance policy" for the good of the team and program? I am a big fan of developing deep rosters (and playing more kids) but this approach can have a negative impact on the w/l record if the best players are not playing.

lol, no. Without Pinnick this was a .500 team at best. Without Vargas they made a deep playoff run.

The kids understand the deal. It’s not like guys are leaving to play at sac state for 15k.

Man this one hurts. Don't fault Pinnick one bit for leaving (assuming he does leave) and grabbing the money. But had he stayed, we would have been set for the next couple years. Having a stud QB is the most important thing a team can have. Best of luck to him going forward.
  • Sailorgabe

Agreed. The approach needs to be developing more than 2 QBs a season. Two starters with a RS playing behind. It’s a big change but the quicker we adapt the faster we can overcome change.

Look, I like CP, but I was never in love with him. He is a great athlete but for every great play he made, he would follow up with a bad one. He still has a ton to develop and I honestly think we have a QB on the roster who is better. Let’s see how this plays out.

A lot of inner city and poor kids were used as athletes, spent 3-4-5 years studying often worthless topics, not graduating, taking Mickey Mouse classes, and gaining no skills. I guess it's better than drugs or joining a gang.
  • movielover

Good points. Develop QB #2, and the reality is that QB #1 will have 25% to 40% lower stats, possibly making them less attractive to being poached. Win win. Up two scores, #2 plays. Blowout, #3?

Are QBs getting multi-year, guaranteed deals? I knew CP would max out here next year.

Even with all the injuries, if we had Jacob Pysk, I think we had a legitimate shot of making the national championship.

When I saw Plough's recent posts, I knew something was coming.

we played fine with the other QB who played when CP was out. You’re over stating his value. No doubt he’s great! But the fall off isn’t as dramatic and you’d think

Sub 50% completion percentage with two int against a bad team doesn’t fit my definition of fine.
