Idaho was terrible when Wood missed the Northern Colorado and Eastern Washington games. Surprisingly so because two backups had played effectively last year. Their win streak started when Wood returned, not coincidence.

wood looked much better in the first half than the second half at NAU. His accuracy in the second half was very poor - I think in part due to pressure from the NAU pass rush. I think the key with Wood is to not let him beat you with his legs - his completion percentage is 59% compared to Pinnick’s 70%. Not terrible but I think he’s inconsistent.

Wow - 2022 - who'd have thought it? I ride around Sochor Field quite a bit and watched them take up and then install the new surface. It was quite fascinating to see the depth of preparation the new field required. Is it better than grass or Acme Screendoor and Field Surface? No idea. But I don't think we can lay injuries even mostly on the field. As athletes become more powerful they surely put more stress on their bodies and finding the right balance between pure strength, weight, and what the body can actually endure must be an increasingly difficult assessment for trainers and coaches. You can look across all of sport these days and see the rate of injury, substantial injury, rising. Compare an NFL lineman from the 60s to a college lineman in even the Big Sky let alone Ohio State. It's a different world. At some point we'll reach a limit and may already be there.

The good news is the depth chart published for this weeks game doesn't have any new deletions.

Just an extremely unlucky year for injuries, nothings changed in the turf or cleats realm. Very unfortunate in what could have been another elite year for the ags.

I think the depth chart updater is out for the season. I was talking to someone in the know last night about injuries and it sounds like the DB situation is dire. Vargas is a big concern for me - he had pads on in second half, but no helmet and never near the coaches.

I've got my fingers crossed that it doesn't get even worse. I don't ever recall seeing so many serious injuries on the defensive side of the ball and mostly concentrated at the DB position. It looks like we have to score a lot of points in order to have a chance to win in the next 3 games...shootouts or whatever it takes...

The depth chart is updated from last week to this week.
Last week they had Josh Allen starting at one corner and backing up both safeties and nickel.

This week they have Ty Richardson at the corner opposite Colfield, backed up by Trey Carr.Josh Allen is number two at nickel and both safeties, not listed at corner.
Trey Carr has appeared in the last two games and is #2 at both corners, Richardson played against Idaho State,
Marquis Bell broke a bone in his forearm.

    Is Totton injured?
Haven't seen JJ Cravin play yet. Not ready, or injured?

    Both are true freshmen.

    “ Is Perez out?”
He’s been out most of the year and my understanding is that he is out for the season. #38 Walsh (freshman) got one or two touches last game and got positive yards. Impressive HS stats for what its worth.

I believe that was #34 Kai Acia. A junior who went to HS with Pinnick.

Yes, the Del Oro grad. Pinnick teammate. Thanks for the correction.

Statistically speaking, this game appears to be a matter of stopping the run for the Ags. Idaho has two solid RBs and a QB that is not afraid to pull it down and go. They average 4.7 YPC (which is about what UCD gives up per carry) and they possess the ball longer than their opponents by five minutes on average, I'm guessing that Coombs and Co. would rather play this game than face a Run and Shoot-type outfit like Idaho State given the injuries in the Secondary. The Vandals have allowed 14 sacks on the season and are not an elite passing team.

Offensively, Davis has to eliminate untimely turnovers and sacks. Period. 22 QB sacks against is no bueno in modern, catch-and-throw football. The Ags do throw more than most teams and run a lot of shot plays off of play action protection which causes the QB to have to stand in there. Idaho will sit in a 3-down look quite a bit, maybe not against Davis, but that explains their paltry 10 sacks for the season.

All in all, this game will be very close, likely a field goal difference. Being a non-gambling man, I don't know the line but I'm guessing the Vandals are a home favorite by a couple points. If the Aggies can eliminate the turnovers and win the special teams phase, I like their chances. We are dealing with razor-thin margins down the stretch, and I think our guys are comfortable in close games. GO AGS!

For the statistics to mean anything we have to know who is playing. We've had mention of two starting receivers and a running back being injured, and a dire DB situation. If thats true than statistics are for a different team. Up until last week Davis was clearly better defending running plays, one of the lowest yards per carry average in the conference. After last week, they are pretty middling against both run and pass.

I like Davis' chances if we have the players listed in this weeks 2 deep on D. Thats everyone that started the first three games of the season except the Connor twins.
