Asking a lot for kids/families to turn down the money that is being thrown around in CFB, which makes what Lan and Rex did by staying all the more admirable. Probably harder to keep a player who has already earned their degree than it is to keep someone who is still working on it but who knows. It all comes down to the individual situation and who the decision maker is. That being said, both Cofield and Vargas are going to be FBS targets, especially Drew. It is hard to find Corners while RBs are a bit easier to come by. Let's hope he's happy and he's looking big picture at the degree.

Rex will be interesting if indeed he has another year to play. Probably comes down to what the NFL scouts/projections will tell him as much as anything. Porter is a great FCS linebacker, but I don't know that the demand will be the same as the others. If I were betting, he'd be most likely to stay of the guys we're talking about.

We haven’t had many play as true freshmen at a level where they project to FBS starters. Freshmen don’t have the investment of time in the degree that makes transferring less attractive.
What is behind the worry about Porter Connors? I didn’t see him injured on the field, and he played relatively late in the game.
Ty Richardson hasn’t played since the Washington game reported here as an ankle injury. Hopefully he’ll be back soon.

I think we're all over-blowing NIL. I read recently that a vast majority of kids promised NIL funds received in the 10s of thousands if not less, while a very small percentage received the big bucks. Think Imaleava at UCLA. Not saying it isn't useful for these kids, but I'd bet not worth the hassle of transferring and potentially riding pine

Depends on the individual....Lan stayed, Teddye left, for instance.

Cofield and Vargas are absolute ballers.

Both being freshman with 3 years left adds so much value as well. I hope they stay but both (especially cofield) would pass up on at least $250K

With revenue sharing starting next year, the power conferences will look even more attractive. Not sure how the teams will spread their wealth, but a $15M type payroll should have plenty of cash trickling down to the backups!

Man, it's not even close how much Rex does on DEFENSE --- MRI results should be back by tomorrow if it was taken Saturday night / Sunday morning.

So if Rex is out a significant amount of the season, how will that affect his NFL aspirations?
  • Davis supreme
    3
Will definitely affect them given his position at DB depending on the injury (most definitely it is worst case scenario - acl tear) Which is why I think others on the board have some thoughts on him playing another CFB season whether that is at another institution or Davis obviously I think we all would love that ladder but will respect his decision whatever he decides to do.

Two of the guys in the top 10 are reserve DBs, who will see more playing time if Rex is out. Batson may be making tackles at near the Rex rate per play, assuming he plays about a third as much. (just a guess). Stanley may also play some safety, with Allen playing nickel.

SLO's Madden Center / training / offices/ new locker rooms are nearing completion, an initial cost of $30 million ballooned to $45 million. A blurb on the web said Spanos Stadium would increase to 22,000 capacity, but I see no update there.

Home to Cal Poly Football as well as Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Mustang Memorial Field Presented by Dignity Health French Hospital at Alex G. Spanos Stadium is the Wrigley Field of college football arenas due to its quaint layout, ideal setting and an architecture that provides fans excellent site lines to the on-field action. Named in honor of Cal Poly alumnus, philanthropist and sportsman Alex Spanos, the stadium is experiencing a phased renovation that will eventually expand its capacity to 22,000 seats.

Poly "game notes" do not list either Conner brothers in the 2-deep.

If Ty Richardson (CB) and Garretson (LB) are still out, we will see if the defensive depth can carry us until these players return later in the year. Fingers crossed that none of these guys experienced a season ending injury.

Both of the Conners being out is brutal. Hopefully just short term. That goal line package will live in infamy if Rex ends up missing a lot of time.

The 22K number has been on the website in the facilities section I think since 2008. It isn't happening- at least any time soon.

There were actually some interesting conceptual drawings of a 3 decker stadium east side stand replacement- looked like it was done by the same people who did Sac State's renderings.

As we all know, the east side stands are still there at Spanos, and no real talk about replacing them as far as I know. Has to happen soon though, because getting rusty and kind of dangerious imo.

Looking forward to what I hope will be a convincing Aggie win. The last time I saw them play, they were getting chewed up by the Huskies and I didn't think they played all that great in the only win I saw over Utah Tech. Go Ags!

How often dies Spanos sell out?
  • SloStang

The last few years only once or twice a year. That said, I expect this game to be sold out. It is homecoming, it is UC Davis and we are coming off a big win. It is also supposed to be a beautiful day. Sunny with a high of 76.

Recently has been selling out about one game a season. Last year was Montana.

Wow week (usually first home game) generally gets close to selling out. The stadium used to sell out more often obviously.. just hard to do that with so many losing seasons recently.

    https://ticketscalpoly.evenue.net/event/ATH26/FB02

Seems like quite a few tickets left still, but Cal Poly people generally buy tickets late we will see what happens. I was surprised Montana sold out last year, and I think it showed a lot of tickets left a few days out from that game also.

They also did remove some seating from the south endzone to build the Madden Center.. but added some "premium" seating to the north endzone, but I think a reduction of around 1,000 seats, so a bit easier to sell out.

A poster over in the Cal Poly forum said Dieffenbach isn't going to be playing. I don't know if that is speculation or reliable information so take it as you will.

I can't recall the status of other injured players from this game or previous games. Does anyone have an update of anyone else?
