Nice win. Pinnick seemed more comfortable. Tough call between Fisher and Vargas over who should get more touches. Fisher did great but Vargas runs hard. Loves Mitchel Dixon’s toughness!
Hope we can still play better. Not sure we are going to knock off NDSU, SDSU or Montana St with this play and porous defense.
SUU dropped 549 yards on us, 233 on the ground, 316 through the air. Ouch. We need to do better against the better teams going down the stretch. I was calling for Vargas to get more touches, and Dr. Mike reminded me Fisher was taking it to the house. Fun watching both of them. Impressed watching Cayden blocking downfield as Fish was getting a big gain. Onward to Weber.
I was flipping around. We were driving for a 3rd (?) score, and after CP had a great run, he appeared to get happy feet, and our drive stalled. Maybe our WRs were covered, or the pocket broke down?
CP started impressively strong (7-7), then became a .500 passers-by. Solid win.
Pinnick is definitely still developing as a passer especially on deeper routes. There were a handful of passes he just missed the open guy down field. I was glad we got to see some of his athleticism again though. It disappeared the last couple of games. Holy moly the combo of Fisher and Vargas was dynamite. They could be a deadly combo in conference play.
The defense left a lot to be desired. Too many open receivers even if they are just the check down guy. Still have to cover them. And too many arm tackle attempts especially on their RBs. Gotta wrap guys up! Way too many yards after contact.
Still great to get a win and drop a 50 burger on a team that has historically given us some trouble.
The game looked like it was going to be a loss based on the ease with which they were rushing. It seemed more likely they would continue to get 10 yards a rush than Davis would continue to break big plays. Idaho, Sac State, and Montana all had impressive run games yesterday.
maybe I just got unlucky. The side of concessions by the press box seemed less bad but a little while before halftime the student side was packed in my experience. Much better than last year thougg
Game was already started and it seemed like 5k students were waiting to get in the game. Pretty crowded environment but not really loud/crazy if that makes sense.
"UC Davis's Aggie Stadium has a capacity of 10,743 spectators. The stadium features fixed seating on the east and west sides, as well as grass berms in the end zones, providing the official capacity of 10,743."
17,217 was in attendance. At what number would the fire marshal say it's too high?
I think it’s worth noting our game yesterday had a bigger crowd or +- a few hundred spectators than MW teams New Mexico, Nevada, San Jose State, UTEP, Utah State and Wyoming have had at games this year. Pretty awesome.
Consider there are about 8,500 seats at the stadium plus room for 2k or so in the end zones. The reported number sounds like something we would hear from across the causeway.
I wasn’t there, but watching on TV there still appeared to be open seats on the east side, so idk if I’m buying 17k. I’m never sure how attendance is counted as to tickets sold/distributed vs redeemed.
That said, capacity is a function of square feet of circulation, number of exits, and number of toilets. Number of seats is kind of irrelevant except that bathrooms are expensive so you typically don’t overbuild them relative to seat count. A fire marshal can consider mitigations like portolets or extra staffing. But is still think this is an extreme example.
There was someone counting with a clicker as we came into the stadium so I assume they were doing that at every entrance. Also, keep in mind that there are always a lot of people up about walking around, getting food and heading to the restrooms so the seats never look completely full. This was most definitely the biggest crowd I've seen in the stadium.
