Did you make that trip to Davis last week and see anything worth noting?

I was up there yesterday with AgAlum. Both lines are big and deep. The QB decision is going to be a tough one. Looks like Harper has been having a great camp. He's the safe choice....but... Pinnack has the higher ceiling that could lead to greater results.

I always walk away from practices with so much appreciation for the level of detail. We sat in on the team meeting where they dissected the weekend scrimmage. Very interesting level of coaching on tackling/blocking and playing 'winning football'. The practices are so well-planned out. Not a minute of wasted time out there, just two hours of teaching, hustling and hitting.

Sac Bee writers article, link to Fairfield paper:
What can UC Davis do to build on 2024's incredible success

“This is the best we’ve been on the offensive line,” Plough said

But a theme of the article is the continuity of the Davis program for 50+ years,
“The cool part for me,” Plough said after a recent practice, “is that Coach Sochor used to tell me that he felt like I was the perfect guy to be a bridge to this generation. I have relationships and I have knowledge of what was, and it’s important that I educate players and make them a part of what we do here and to continue the things that we’ve done for a long time.”

They couldn't give them room to spread out and reduce background noise?

Now that camp has reached the time to install game plan for Mercer, they must have settled on a QB if Plough is to meet his objective of having a clear #1. He probably has.

they had a 3-hour scrimmage on Friday and I’m sure that shed light on the decision. Anyone here brave the heat to watch?

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is listening does it make a sound?.

Ring doorbell cameras are our conclusive evidence that sounds continue to happen when we're not home, and that sounds are not dependent on anyone hearing them

And let's tackle (that's a football word, so this is still slightly relevant to sports) the question of whether the chicken or the egg came first while we're at it. The answer depends somewhat on whether you believe in creation or evolution. If one believes in creation, then the chicken came first, and it laid the first egg as it was created to do. If one believes in evolution the egg came first. The first chicken would have been the genetically-mutated offspring of its evolutionary predecessor.

The chicken/egg question may have a 3rd answer if you are the president of Sacramento State University.

Unfortunately, I'll miss this one since we'll be in Paris. I'll have to watch the game on replay since the start would be 1 a.m. Paris time.

Email said the tickets are $40. Unless my TeamAggie gets me access, I'll skip -> i'm WAY past the days of being able to drink $40 in beer, except possibly at a Giants game (2 beers?).

Here is the report on the Secondary from the Davis Enterprise. The headline says Kicking Game Lineman Competitive but the article doesn’t mention linemen, just Ridley and the Secondary.

“Plough talked about the Aggies’ defense, in the secondary where several players are vying to playing time when opponents have the football. The bulk of the players on the 2024 UCD team graduated.

“It’s hard to single out one guy in that secondary,” Plough said.
The coach thanked his staff for building up the players to cover an opponents’ passing game and running backs who bust through an offensive line and are looking for room to run.

“Feels like we’ve gone out and got some great players,” Plough said.”

Then they talk about Rex. No other DB named.
It seems easier to get classified information than to get a non all-american player’s name from a newspaper covering camp.

Any hope for the traditional position preview series on the team site? It’s that time of year.

Isn't there food or something else to do at this event that can help soak up some of that $40 ?

I can't shake the feeling that the photos in the Facebook post may be AI-generated. Somebody may have asked it to come up with pictures that depict a very busy event and people enjoying themselves with tiny sample glasses of beer. It came up with:

Three women who graduated UC Davis 10 years before the photo was "taken", and their friend Katie, who went somewhere else. They bought some new UCD gear online two weeks ago, and are wearing it for the 1st time. It's obviously time for Katie to get a haircut, but today all she cares about is drinking with her friends, Jen, Jenn, and Caitie. Caitie is the woman on the left.

Two people who are having a responsible amount of fun, not like Katie, who doesn't notice that her locks are creating a Chewbaca effect around her chin.

A very busy bartender who takes the time to interact with his "patrons" and get to know them as people. Maybe that's why his line is so long.

At least this photo collection is more realistic than the ones they used to market basketball, with the stands full and students with wigs and painted chests spelling "Aggies". Those photos were likely put together by promising pizza + $20 to students to fill a few rows of the student sectionon a non-gameday.
