Looks like Aggie athletics is going to be rocking new alt uniforms this season with a Tahoe partnership. Turquoise/sky blue is coming to UC Davis.

I see these alternate uniforms as a frill at best and at worst against one of our campus goals of sustainability. We touted ourselves as a global leader in sustainability. Alternative uniforms do NOT meet the concept of sustainability.
For the department spending resources including time takes away from being focused on the athlete’s sport (craft) For the athletic department in general I see resources being taken away from supporting the athletes. Please do Not tell me that these uniforms are going to create positive revenue by selling them to the public.

Without any gold though. Gives me University of San Diego vibes to be honest.

I don't dislike it... It's fine, but I will always be partial to the blue tops and gold pants, but I'm fine with an alternate uniform as long as we don't go the Oregon route and have a different uniform for every single game. Not my cup of tea.

Next they can call the blue-grey uniform Bodega blue.

I definitely like them and the video is very cool also! Love seeing that we used the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center boat. I think we'll see the football team keep the classic blue and gold uniforms as well for some games.

I agree. UCD shouldn't be wasting resources just to look "purdy". This is like a teenager who doesn't play basketball but needs $200 bball shoes.

If UCD truly wants to be a leader in sustainability, instead of talking out of both sides of its mouth, it should be figuring out how to turn recycling and waste products into apparel. Then maybe opponents will leave goals and hoops empty while they are wretching from the smell on the sidelines. Davis is supposed to have brilliant scientists. Put them to work on this now. No hemp is to be used.

As option 2 they could just cancel all the sports teams + use the ARC as discount student housing. Put cots out on Hamilton Court. They did something similar in "Revenge of the Nerds" after the dumb football players burned down their frat house, and it motivated the nerds to go find a nerd house to renovate with their robot friend.

If they re-made that movie today it would be way different. The central messages would probably remain: don't trust football players or cheerleaders at your fictional college. If you must interact with a cheerleader, dress up as Darth Vader.

Where was I ? Yes. Eliminate future waste by eliminating the product.

How long before they change the name to University of Davis and move the campus to the top of a hill somewhere ?

Taking it a bit further, yesterday's article highlighting the collaboration with the Master of Management clearly demonstrated how that has benefitted both Athletics and the GSM in the short-term. In the longterm, as student-athlete graduates of the MM program go out in the world and have success, they potentially become significant donors.

Connections to other campus programs, like the Tahoe Environmental Research Center, also have the potential to be mutually beneficial. These can only increase support for Athletics within the campus community. The alternate uniforms and the Tahoe-themed games will be very visible reminders of that connection, and good publicity for TERC. Maybe other campus programs or departments will start thinking about how similarly connecting with Athletics could be beneficial to them.

Don’t let purity poison fun. There has to be a balance. New uniforms that create jobs and perhaps drive more clicks to the Tahoe website is not bad. As a result of this marketing I now follow UC Davis Tahoe on Social Media.

The CA Tahoe logo is pretty cool though. I'd buy a t-shirt, or tank for summer....

But we'll never see anything like this in the bookstores based on previous history......

Exactly. It’s just marketing. HS programs roll out 5+ uni combos these days. I’ll take the Tahoe uniforms over the grays or the all navy from recent years. Agree that some gold would make these better.

See and I hope they add this to what we’ve had with the gray navy white gold. The more the merrier imo.

Put some wine in there too since the school is pretty much in wine country! Some we have an on campus vineyard and winery! Since we are world renowned for it!

DAVIS, Calif. — Aggie Athletics has partnered with the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) to celebrate their bold scientific breakthroughs with a bold new color and logo to match. The Aggies will compete in a series of Tahoe-themed games sporting a new alternate uniform starting this fall.

The partnership will extend beyond the kits on the field as student-athletes will have opportunities to visit the facilities located on Tahoe's north and west shores for on-site learning and team retreats. Merchandise sporting the new logo will be available at the Aggie Sideline Store online debuting this summer.

"Athletics offers a national stage to showcase UC Davis — a top-5 public, R1 research university," said Director of Athletics Rocko DeLuca. "We in Athletics strive to match the excellence of our institution's groundbreaking work, including the Aggies' legacy of innovation and global impact at Lake Tahoe. We're excited to give fans a behind-the-scenes look and celebrate that spirit through alternate uniforms and merchandise."

"This partnership brings together two UC Davis organizations with cultures of dedication and excellence," states UC Davis TERC Director Stephanie Hampton. "We are so excited for our work at Lake Tahoe and beyond to be highlighted on a national stage by our outstanding student-athletes."
Information on the UC Davis Tahoe fall game dates and times will be made public in June.
