Following another 1-possession game at Irvine, Davis visits the Tritons for the season finale. After the loss on Thursday, Aggies are sitting 4th in the conference. With a win, the math is simple. Regardless of what anyone else does, UCD is guaranteed a first round bye in the Big West Tournament. A loss is more complicated. Davis could end up anywhere from the 4th to the 7th seed, depending on what Long Beach, Riverside and Santa Barbara do in their games, and on the tie-breaking criteria. UCSD is in much the same situation.
When the two teams met in Davis three weeks ago, the Tritons came a way with a 2 point victory, one of four single basket losses the Aggies have suffered in conference play. At this point, relative strengths and team leaders seem immaterial. Saturday’s game pretty much defines “playing meaningful games in March”. For both teams, the post-season starts tomorrow.
Led by Ryann Bennett and Tova Sabel, the Aggies rally in the 2nd half, take down UCSD on the road. The win secures a first round bye in the Big West Tournament.
That was a stunning 4th quarter. 29 points?? Egad! That was just amazing to watch. Sabel just found some new level. There was excellent ball movement. I wish they'd start stronger. My heart can't take much more of this! <grin>
