Yes, I addressed both of these points in the discussion about the Big West post-season.

just think how good they’d be if Bryce Pope stuck around instead of languishing on the bench at USC

Well, he may be languishing on the bench but he probably feels pretty good about the balance of his bank account from the $$$ he gets from USC's NIL fund though...this is what big time college sports has come too...

When you mean to vote (I assume) for UC San Diego and instead vote for UC Davis...

Good catch. I see that UCSD not only got 14 votes from the coaches but racked up 8 in the AP.

    Games of Feb. 27

UC Santa Barbara (home, 19-10/11-7) 96, Cal Poly (home, 11-18/5-12) 77
    UC Irvine (24-4/14-3) 76, CSU Fullerton (home, 6-23/1-16) 51
    UC San Diego (25-4/15-2) 77, CSUN (home, 20-8/12-5) 71
    UC Riverside (19-11/12-6) 82, Hawai`i (home, 14-14/6-11) 76
CSU Bakersfield (13-17/7-11) 88, Long Beach State (home, 7-22/3-14) 87 OT

The UCR victory over Hawai`i puts the Warriors in jeopardy of not making the Big West Tournament, which is not good news for Aggie fans. I watched the game and can say that Hawai`i is not suffering any after effects from their blow out loss to UCSD. They’re going to play UCD tough.

As expected, the Matadors gave UCSD a real tough battle, but there were no real surprises today. The score by which Cal Poly lost is a mild surprise since they’ve been playing well lately and are fighting for an 8th seed, which is still within reach. That’s more than you can say for both the Beach and the Titans, who will not make the cut. Bakersfield kept their hopes alive on a buzzer beater by Jemel Jones.

I won’t be posting on this discussion on Saturday since I’ll be watching the UCD-Hawai`i game in person.

Saturday’s game will say a lot about who’s in and the final 4 seeds. Bakersfield vs Poly, and our game. A Poly loss puts them with 13 losses; even with games vs the bottom 2, they’d be hanging by a thread, and Bako would be in. A Poly win….they’d probably finish at 12 losses with Bako (home vs Hawaii). A win by us put Hawaii on the brink especially with road games vs Bako and CSUN to follow. A win by them keeps them alive but that road trip will be tough. I think we’re in the 6/7 regardless of the outcomes - either Bako or Hawaii will have at least 12 losses.

My guess is we stay at 6 even with 11 losses, where an opening round win would give us a shot vs UCR. If Bako wins out, they’d be 6 since they beat us twice. Hawaii wins out? Not sure who wins that one.

It's from this weeks coaches poll. UCSD got votes in the AP and Coaches Top -25.

Tomorrow, we should hope that Hawai`i can beat Bakersfield away from Honolulu. That would clich the 8n seed for the Warriors but of more importance, it would likely knock the Roadrunners out of the playoffs as Cal Poly will probably edge them out of the 8th seed. I think we have a better chance in the 6-7 matchup with Hawai`i than Bakersfield.

I think I’d take my chances with Bakersfield. I don’t think we’ll stink 3 times vx them! Hawaii isn’t a great matchup - we were fortunate to beat them at home.

I’m not sure who we’d match up with better. Hawaii definitely played hard for their senior night game and when they visited Davis, it was such a close game. I still remember Tanner Christensen falling to the ground after simply missing.

I agree with Dr. Mike. After 2 losses to Bakersfield, I’m sure the coaches are trying to figure out a strategy to not let it happen again!

I always root for Cal Poly. It’s been great to see them play better and win games! I can’t believe they beat UCR.

It is said that it's hard to beat the same team 3 times in a season, but I take that adage with a grain of salt. If one team has beaten the other twice already it is either because they are just far better or they have some kind of matchup advantage. I very much doubt that Bakersfield is better player for player than the Ags, so they bring something to the game that the Ags don't seem to be able to handle, such as their extremely physical play. I still like the Hawai`i matchup better because the Ags offense was terrible last week so I believe they can do better on a neutral court.

    Games of Mar. 6

    Cal Poly (home 13-18/7-12) 100, CSU Fullerton (6-25/1-18) 69
UC San Diego (home 27-4/17-2) 70, Long Beach State (7-24/3-16) 63
    CSU Bakersfield (home, 14-18/7-11) 76, Hawai`i (15-15/7-12) 64
    CSUN (home, 20-8/12-5) 94, UC Riverside (home, 19-11/12-6) 79

Some blow-out games today, notably the one that took place in northern California and one upset that puts the 3-4 seeds in doubt. The other “upset” is Hawai`i loss to CSU Bakersfield, which is not huge, but seals the 6th seed for UC Davis, and put the Warriors in jeopardy of falling into 9th.
