once they showed a wide view, you could see there was a decent crowd. It’s a really big building so it looked sparse. It says it holds 4000; not sure I’d guess it was nearly half full.
The play-by-play folks were commenting on how cold thee Pyramid was and then wondered if anyone played on a court laid over ice. The answer, of course, is Yes if you played at the Honda Center for the Big West tournament. I wore heavy wool socks sitting courtside and still had really chilly feet after a day of basketball.
TY gives and he takes away as we saw in this game. He gives a whole lot more. I think I’d keep him. <grin>
Not sure what adjustments we made between the matchups with these guys but we really stifled their offense. Commentators kept mentioning how many times, especially in the second half, that they were forced to shoot with less than 5 seconds on the shot clock.
I do wish Les would use the bench more in the second half. I think Daugherty and Cooper have become reliable contributors (and Daugherty is showing he can score) but their minutes are almost exclusively in the first half. When we have a night where Sevilla isn’t scoring, we’re limited to TY and Tamba as scoring options (Leo doesn’t look very confident shooting these days). I think that’s a big reason we can put teams away.
8 league games to go. Can we go 4-4? Considering
an Irvine rematch and 2 with UCSD, that would be a good finish. 11-9 might be a top 4 with some luck (we have a tie breaker over UCSB).
i think he's just lost confidence. He hit a 3 last night, going 1-5. The last one he made? Vs the Beach at Davis. Since conference play started, his 3 point shooting has dropped off the table. I do remember a game awhile back, maybe vs Oregon State, where they were talking about him dealing with knee issues. Might be a lingering injury.
I also wonder if Sevilla is 100%. He's been wearing that shoulder elastic bandage for a couple weeks. He's not a big dude, and it seems like teams try to take it to him physically. Last night he had a turnover....his FIRST since the last LBSU game! And he's been playing 35 minutes or so every night. His passing is SO precise, and SO smart. Just watch how he leads a guy coming off a screen toward the top of the key.
