    Payback for their loss to the Beach at Davis would be great. It looks like this should be an easy win with the Beach coming off a 6 game losing streak including losses to both Cal Poly and Fullerton. Plus, they were blown out by 31 against UCSB last Saturday. But being in the middle of the Big West pack means that UC Davis can’t be complacent against anyone. Given their schedule, it already seems likely that we will not qualify for a tournament bye, so this game and their next game vs. Fullerton are must wins to sustain some hope. Having encountered the Beach’s leading scorer, Devin Askew, in Davis, it would be nice to think they can contain him at the Pyramid. While it is not likely that he will go off for 32 points as he did in Davis, he is still averaging over 18 ppg. The Ags can’t focus on him to the neglect of the other Beach players. Long Beach State showed their depth and scoring balance at Davis and they will be looking to end their losing streak to a team they’ve already beaten. The game will be on ESPN+ as usual.

    at Davis, the Beach shot 65% from beyond the arc -> 30% above their season average. there's a big drop off in scoring from Askew's 21 point per game, so I will assume Les will design something to slow him down. This is a critical game for us. A win on Thursday sets us up for a possible sweep vs Fullerton on Saturday. A road sweep would put us in pretty solid position above the bottom half of the conference. A loss would put the Beach in a strong position to finish above us.

    ESPN shows us as 4.5 favorites. We also have to be aware of other guys and how that affects seeding. I think, in addition to winning tonight, we root for Bako, Fullerton and Poly to lose. Although. We might want a POLY victory tonight (we do have a tie breaker over them). And root for USCD and Irvine the rest of the season (they are secure as top 2). A top 4 seed doesn’t seem in the cards with our schedule, so I’m shooting for 5-6.

    The Aggies (12-10, 6-5), as expected, fell out of the top 4 with losses at UC Riverside and UC Irvine. UC Davis was in each game, losing at Riverside on a Nate Pickens 3-pointer with 5 seconds left and leading the Anteaters into the 2nd half. The back half of the 4-game road trip looks to be easier vs. 9th-place Long Beach State and 11th-place Cal State Fullerton. The Aggies force 15.7 turnovers per game.

    The Beach (7-16, 3-8) had a weird week. LBSU led UC Irvine by 7 with 3 minutes to go and ended up losing in a valiant OT effort. Two nights later, the Beach were buried 85-54 at middling UC Santa Barbara. Long Beach shot just .302 from the field in the Thunderdome and hasn’t reached .500 since Jan. 11. Devin Askew is averaging 25.3 points in his last 3 games.

    Sevilla is 0 for 5, but I never saw him shoot so he must have stopped looking for the basket after the early part of the half, but the team needs him to look for his shot. I notice that the Aggies had as many assists as turnovers, which would be a better sign if they didn't have so many unforced errors.

    Well, if you're going to pull away, overtime is a good time to do it. Looking at the stats, it's amazing how close the two teams were in rebounds, assists, fouls, with the big difference being where it counts most: shooting percentage. A good, if tough win.
