A rugged start for both squads in the first half but it’s an entertaining game in the 2nd half. Getting good turns from first year guards.
An excellent 65-58 win for the Ags over a (now) 7-3 Idaho squad.
I am liking Sussex quite a bit. She’s going to earn more playing time. And Bennett is definitely earning her playing time.
I’m curious about the trend in women’s basketball for hefty centers. You’d think they wouldn’t have the mobility but that’s not how it plays out. An interesting trend.
I really like what I see of the on-court team chemistry from the Ags.
Good win for the Ags. Getting to Moscow is not easy, and Idaho was 7-2 before today's loss, having only lost to WSU and BYU to start the season. I agree, really liking both Bennet and Sussex play so far. Back court definitely has depth now. Sussex was playing in front of family today, down from Canada, so I'm sure her good performance will make for a nice reunion.
Bennett and Sussex are both strong additions. Though they have their own games, they're comparable offensively. Bennett has a stronger defensive foundation, so is more of a two-way player right now. Hence, more playing time thus far. Sussex also missed 2 games (and some practices) due to a concussion in practice. As Sussex's defense improves, I agree that she'll earn more minutes.
Mazzie went down hard in the second half (I think) of the ASU game and didn't come back. Not sure what the injury is but hopefully, with a week off, she'll be back by conference time.
Yeah, we saw her go down, but she seemed to be moving pretty normally after the game. As for her not returning in the second half, we felt that Gross found a combination that was working at both ends of the court and went with it. Bennett played the last 15 minutes plus, Burns the final 13 or so. I think Sable played the least, @10 and a half.
Maritime was obviously not much of a challenge, but it was nice to see the younger players - Bennett, Glad, Kanagasabay, & Sussex - as well as Fitzgerald, get extended playing time. They all looked good, especially Bennett and Sussex. Both had 11 points & 6 assists in @20 minutes, including mid-range scoring ability.
The whole group maybe showing some of what the coaching staff see from them in practice. A peek into the future?
It will be interesting to see if they get solid minutes in the next three games against the lowest tier of BW schools. Particularly at Fullerton, which has played several teams pretty close.
