@Jdur posted this in another thread, but felt it was notable enough to make a new topic. Eck brought Idaho out the Petrino era at a meteoric rate. It'll be interesting to see if the Vandals can stay on the rise or if Eck guts the program with transfers to New Mexico.
Some of the people I know in Moscow are losing their minds over this. I wish him well. He brought the program back and I can't fault someone for wanting to move up.
Not a chance. He has publicly stated that's he is here for the long run. He's an Aggie at heart and he took this job despite having other opportunities to earn more money. He also has a young family and he knows that Davis is a great place for families with kids. He's going to be here for quite a while.
I don't think so, besides, outsiders will figure this was a fluke year w a top FBS back, and a 6th year QB. This was a fantastic start, but next year reality sets in.
We're bound to lose Coombs soon. I don't know if it will be this offseason or not, but it will be soon. I think it will also be interesting to see Plough's hiring process play out. Hawkins became notorious for promoting from within. It worked sometimes and other times it very much so did not. Does Plough go the same route or does he do a more expansive search for candidates?
I think Idaho fans are still working though collective feelings that dropping from FBS to FCS they did not immediately dominate FCS. Unfortunate to lose their turnaround guy just as they were rounding the corner.
FWIW, the Marshall HC left his first place team to join in conference, last place Southern Miss. Reportedly most of the team has entered the portal, and Marshall has opted out of a bowl game.
Coach Huff will make $950K annually at Southern Miss, and ironically his replacement at Marshall will make $1 M per year.
"His assistant coach salary pool will be $1.75 million, and the support staff salary pool will be $600,000."
He started as a top recruiter, and promises next weekend will be memorable.
“There will be a recruiting weekend next weekend like you've never seen before,” Huff said. “I mean, there's going to be fireworks, there's going to be helicopters, hot air balloons, there's going to be everything like you've never seen before. Not because all that stuff matters, but because those kids are that important to what we're trying to build.”
