I think what makes today's game so depressing was that we had the ability to win against a very good team on the road and there were so many "what ifs" and not just the interceptions and the injury to Lan. It is not dissimilar to the loss 40 years ago (which I was not able to see) even though that was one big "what if." It's one thing to play poorly or just get beaten by a far superior team, but we were absolutely snake-beaten in a way that none of us could have expected. If you had told me that we would out-gain the Coyotes 433-378, make 32 of 3 fourth downs, gotten 3 turnovers and hold their best running back to 83 yards, I wold have said we would have won. But then...
@Toke69 that’s why I’m so mad/bummed. This game’s just wasn’t like any other all season. Montana st. They were a superior team. Today was just ugly football and add on no LL early…
Sloppy game by both teams. When you start getting into game 13, 14+ things just get really tough physically and mentally. Guys are tired and / or hurt, etc.
This was one of those games where things just kinda caught up to the Ags.
Nothing to hang heads about! This team was picked 4th or 5th in the Big Sky by almost everyone - they proved a lot of people wrong and were really fun to watch along the way!
You know the team is VERY disappointed: 5 TO's by the offense and several glaring blown pass coverages by the defense against a very good football on the road yet we only got beat by 2 TD's. Heck, we even had more total yardage.
You would honestly think we should have gotten blown out with all those mistakes plus losing Lan for half the game which tells me that this was a big, missed opportunity. We are every bit as good, if not better, than South Dakota but we shot ourselves in the foot today over and over. That's what is most disappointing.
Totally fair. IIRC, the only other game he had more than 1 pick was the Cal game. But that also speaks to how good he was all year long to even help us get to this point.
Tough game to watch. Coming in with high expectations and then to not play your best is really frustrating. Will be fun to see who steps up next year to fill key vacancies.
Agree. I think we were just as good if not better that SD but we just made too many mistakes. It was a crazy game and it feels like we missed a golden opportunity to advance.
We lose an awful lot of very good players so I really don't know what to expect next year. I hope we can reload get to the playoffs again next year instead of taking several years to rebuild in order to make another run.
Everything is going to be alright. We are way better right now than I thought we might be when Coach Hawk stepped down. Not bad for year 1. Seniors did a heck of a job building this foundation. Who knows, maybe in couple years we look back and say 2024 was the year we took the leap.
Whatever the extent of the injury, I'm sure UC Davis Medical has him on a path to heal. He has about 3 or 4 months before the NFL process really starts to take hold with Pro Days, private workouts, the East/West Shrine Game, the Senior Bowl, the Combine.
I remembered somebody posted this game on AGS a couple weeks ago so just remember, it could have been worse. Sometimes weird things happen in the playoffs. South Dakota St was the #5 team that year but had a 10 turnover game in the national semifinals.
USD head coach said Davis was one-dimensional which made it easier to defend. I have to believe Larison going down in the second quarter contributed to that and really changed the tenor of the game. Not just his running ability and threat to break one at any time, but the swing passes and short routes that get him some space. That put a lot of pressure on Hastings to get most everything done in the air and I think made Hastings force some throws he shouldn’t have, especially when the defense knew they wouldn’t have to deal with Larison.
