Thanks I’m glad I found this site. I’m a 2002 grad and have followed Davis football for years. It’s great to have found a common place to celebrate Aggie sports!
It actually is though. I hate the sac state boards with an ad every 5 posts and still cannot for the life of me understand why Any Given Saturday makes a one-post view the default instead of showing all posts in a thread without needing to opt-in to that each time you clear your cookies (and you can only change this setting by switching from mobile view to desktop view).
Meanwhile on AST things are clean, instant-updating, and simple.
before 2016 AST was on Yuku (now Tapatalk). The platform was always breaking and sometimes had ads. I found it, it is still out there frozen in time! There was an older board out there too, might have been under D2football boards. But yes, this has been a good platform and no special app required.
The first message board I can recall was created by ckwan16. He disappeared once the second message board was created. I always wondered what happened to him.
I had a different username on that one and remember it well. It was still a more pleasant experience than some of the other fan forums out there at the time, a lot of which also used Yuku. Unfortunately a lot of that has not changed at all — big sky and big west boards specifically.
I actually had to go deep into the Yuku AST threads to find the photo of the 2007 horseshoe game I posted in the other thread (about attendance). can confirm it’s still around and a fun blast through the past for anyone who wants to do some reading about Aggie athletics over the years!
agreed, that while there have been some differences of opinion here on certain topics, this is a place with folks worth talking to. It’s actually a bit jarring to stop by other forums and see some of the most degenerate corners of the internet in broad daylight.
We used to have a Fanatics.com(?) board back in the day (early to mid 2000s). Chris Kelly was the main Davis sports writer at the time and regulared the board!
I went back and looked at some old stuff......Randomly found in a Golden Horseshoe thread where I predicted Josh Kelley would end up in the Pac-12 back in 2016 (back when he was required to sit out due to transfer rules).
........Also found a fantasic Aggie Stadium upgrade rendering that puts Rocko's to shame .....this is by "ES2X" in 2016 who is not a member on AST (under the same username, anyway). He laid out possible locations for "Voodoo Cornfields." It was fabulous. :D
Strangely, I struggle to have a strong opinion about Rocko. To be fair, I don’t know to what extent the performance center and practice field were his gigs or whether Blue and Hawkins had put those in motion. We have thankfully free of Title IX scandals and funding shortfalls, which is important. And maybe he just has a behind the scenes personality, but publicly don’t see a lot of inspirational drive from athletics admin. It is unfortunate that Kevin Blue left because he was so accessible and good at fixing things quickly. Maybe he was planning to leave anyway, but if the baseball hit job courtesy of The Bee and The Aggie contributed, it is too bad.
Oh Rocko seems like a perfectly nice dude, I have nothing against him personally, I just think his whole stadium thing was a bit of a mistake. I think the department on many levels seems pretty fantastic, I just think we need to match our teasers of projects with the actual viability of those things actually coming into existence.
I think it would be cool to somehow keep the grass and build the decks (which would need to be set-back a bit for sun). Shaded areas in August/September might help attendance, although we seem to remedy the issue with late kickoffs.
during the early Aggie Stadium era, students were polled often about game time starts. I was one of the few who liked afternoon starts especially after September but most students who voted overwhelmingly chose night games.
