I’m looking at flights into sioux falls out of SMF. They’re very limited, and the few mostly connect via Denver. I’ve missed several connecting flights through the years in Denver. I wish we had a fan charter. Unless something changes, i think I’ll be watching this one from home.

The Department didn't consider a direct charter?

    Will the Aggie Band go?

Will the Aggie Band go? The Aggie Band doesn't even go to Portland State - why would they be allowed to travel to Vermillion?

CA Forever did a great write up, but couldn't help but notice the speed in watching all the film.

Along with #5 Sr. RB Theis, #3 RSo. RB Pierre Jr. and #2 RJr. QB Bouman (formerly at Iowa State), the Coyotes feature threats of great speed in #4 RSo. WR Quaron Adams (Phoenix, AZ formerly at Iowa State) and #7 So. RB Keyondray Jones-Logan (Orlando, FL). They really pop on film with splash plays.

Looking at the Yote roster, most of the players are from around the midwest, and two from Canada, but seeing a lot of skill position guys from Maryland and Florida.

South Dakota also has what appears to be 2 sets of twins on the team, all of them Offensive Linemen. Jordan and Josh Larsen, Ben and Sam Kohls.

“The Department didn't consider a direct charter?”
I actually emailed the alumni center about this 2 weeks ago. They said they were considering their options. I also asked athletics. They said that when they book charters they have to do it months in advance. The alumni center did say that if we make it to frisco they may have a plan. It’s so much easier getting to DAL or Bozeman compared to Vermillion.

The lemon C A logo makes objecting to being called Cal Davis seem petty. The team was called Cal Davis when they had that logo. What does the C denote?
UCLA never wanted to be called University of California Los Angeles, because they didn’t want to market as a branch campus. Short names are better. Ideally the name would be Davis.

I bounced this off of someone who used to work in ICA. Their take? "They're lazy, they don't want to do the work."

The culture of Montana and others - I bet they'll have a charter or two. This means if we make the national championship we're on our own to book the trip.

They almost had me… Florida nonstop to Sioux Falls for $80 on Allegiant but only flys on like Thursdays and Mondays and I don’t think I can swing the extra days in Sourh Dakota.

The CA logo denotes Cal Aggies, like the Cal Aggie Band-Uh, but that never was meant to be associated with the University name, so the Cal Aggie Band-uh for instance was the marching band from the University of California, Davis. I personally don’t get offended with someone says “Cal Davis”. When we played San Jose State (ok I left off the accent on the e and may offend a Spartan), the locker room we used was labeled “Cal State Davis”. Now that was taking things too far :-).

I seem to remember a half-time skit by the then CAAMMB in which the hero was a guy named "Cal Davis."

I was in the band two different years when we did that skit. My roommate played the part of Cal Davis. However, we needed a first name that made sense. He had to be "Handsome Cal Davis", not "Handsome Uck Davis". Also, back then we still weren't all that far removed from when Davis was an extension of Cal. I'm guessing the intentional move away from using Cal Davis has been to emphasize that we are a separate campus with our own identity, just as you would never say Cal LA or Cal Santa Barbara. We seem to be the only UC campus besides Berkeley where people want to stick a Cal at the front of the name.

I always think of the old Cal Worthington "My dog Spot" car sales ads whenever someone says Cal Davis.
  • OldAggieAlum

That's my point. Even though we existed before UCLA, we started as an extension of Cal, whereas as far as I know none of the other campuses did. The older campuses initially had various names before becoming UC <whatever>. UCLA became UCLA in the 20s. Davis had various names before becoming UC Davis in 1959 when the Regents declared it to be a general campus of the University.

Secondary line from Vegas, Monday 12/9/24:

South Dakota: -6.5 (opened at -4.5)
    Money: Aggies +185, Coyotes -225
    Points: 55.5

UCLA from the start didn’t want to be UC Los Angeles whereas Cal was UC period. The use of the initials obscures the association, so UCLA made sure that was how the school was referenced. UCLA is claimed to be the most recognized college name internationally even though many don’t associate it with the University of California.
Cal Davis or University or California Davis or UC Davis all give the impression of a subsidiary association with the Berkeley campus which owns in public perception the labels Cal, or University of California or UC.
UCLA did start as a subsidiary campus, they didn’t get their own Chancellor until 1951

Massey giving South Dakota a 54% chance of winning. Every other game the higher seed has an 80% or higher chance of winning. Our game is going to be a battle.

Sagarin has Davis rated as the 87th best team in the country, certainly the highest they have ever been late in the season, jumping up from 104 last week.
Sagarins’ normal rating has Davis as a touchdown underdog, their experimental method where they have individualized home and away weighting has Davis almost a two touchdown underdog, and their Eigenvector method has Davis favored by two points.

Although our CA logo literally translates as "Cal Aggies"......we go by UC Davis, not Cal Davis. I feel the script "Davis" on the helmets is the clearest representation.
    Confusing enough? hah!

For having to go on the road, I’ll take the dome. At least we won’t be disadvantaged by the weather. We’ll have a full playbook. Reading the USD fan board, they expect to make a lot of noise. Certainly a challenge for us but I am liking the fact we played at Montana and faced some adversity with the noise. Our O recovered well and played great in the second half. Really cleaned up the false starts. I’m optimistic that are more prepared on that front.

I like the eigenvector method … it has “value”. ….. sorry couldn’t resist.

Better playing in a dome or hanger in Vermillion than out in 20 degree weather - which isn’t all that bad - and that wind that always seems to crop up in Brookings which would suppress the passing game.

last time I used eigenvalues was solving Schrödinger’s equation probably 40 years ago. I don’t remember home field or turnover ratio coming into play!

I remembered taking quantum physics many moons ago, and I complained to people that I will never ever see the words "eigenvector" and "eigenvalue" for the rest of my life.
