Santa Clara and Poly were big games for us back in the early 80s because they were competitors for the 2 (I believe) Western slots in the D2 playoffs. In 80, we lost last minute games to both - they played in the quarters, Poly won the championship. That team was up there with 82 as possible Championship level teams.

I haven’t watched any of Sac other than their game vs MSU, which was really one sided. Cats ran wild and just killed them on defense. After seeing their D in action, I see why that might be the case. We’ll stop the run and make their young QB have to make plays. Our ability to slow down Cat QB gives me confidence we’ll stop that area also. Should be run heavy on offense - their D line is decimated.

No turnovers, no Cat hangover and we win decisively.

I think the Ags will be business and fired up especially on defense. Sort of a “you made the playoffs last year but we’re going this time and this is our statement”.

both 81 and 82 were muddy messes. of course, back then, the turf at Toomey was not great, especially in November! Remember last year, the heavens opened at halftime for a nice downpour...and...the Aggies came out and poured it on!

was 2011 the monsoon year? we were fortunate that night that the weather prediction for torrential downpours came true! had it been an afternoon game, the weather was nice and we'd have gotten beaten pretty well.

There was a torrential downpour one year w Coach Biggs where I hid w a half dozen Aggie fans under the Aggie Outlet (?) awning on the . I don't know what drove me to attend, likely a key game. I was soaked.

the game i'm thinking about was when the lights went out and they had to evacuate the stadium (almost an hour delay). Looking at the archives, that was 2010 -> 17-16 win.

one of the years at Hughes (maybe late 90s?) was a monsoon. My dad and I wrapped up in rain gear and blue tarp. Still ended up with bronchitis. And the field was a trashed mud pit after 3 games had been held there Friday. I think most schools in the west have gone artificial turf these days so not sure people really appreciate sinking and sliding on muck. Natural grass is still common at the college level in the southeast but a wet September in the south the grass is still growing. By November in Davis the grass wouldn’t be growing much.

Let's hope he runs with the ball away from his body again on Saturday. Just asking for the ball to be knocked out when you're that careless with it.

Deezy, question, what's with all the Hornet players quitting the team in the middle of the season? I hadn't even heard about all this - that is incredibly disruptive to a program, wth is going on with Thompson and staff?

You'd think it would be low scoring, but all I see is our 3rd and 4th string defense guys slipping off of Larison on 75 yard runs. We'll see.

It's been a nightmare season at the worst possible time, for sure. Luckily according to my sources, none of it will impact the stadium build, or the push for the Pac-12. Is does not HELP though. I don't know how many have "quit" but the season was over when Kaiden Bennett walked away from the team after he was benched in the SJSU game for freshman Carson Conklin. Actually it was probably over in the offseason when our guys weren't trained up to avoid injury. We've lost probably 20 guys that appeared in a two deep to a season ending injury. It's been awful.

I know a lot of Hornet fans are extremely discouraged and quite a few are calling for the heads of the coaching staff. You might want to post the YouTube video of the Tim Plough presser about the upcoming game over on your fan forum. Plough has a lot a respect for the Hornets and says a lot of good things about the team and his good friend, Coach Thompson. It's not just phony, " build up your opponent" talk either; it's genuine respect for Thompson and the Hornets. I think some of your fans need to hear something positive like that.

2010 was the year it rained and a thunderstorm caused the evacuation of the stadium at halftime. I went to that game as a student and was drenched. The first half wasn't that wet.. Walked across campus in the thunderstorm and watched the rest from my fellowship's house.

They came back and won that game. Great revenge for the non call in 2009 when Chris Carter caught a pass that was a called out of bounds.

That one hurt.....if I recall that catch would have resulted in a first down and the Ags would have likely iced the game.

That was one of worst, most critical and most devastating calls ever. It literally ended the game for us. What a shame.

We watched that game from the Grad (miss that place!). They didn't kick us out into the rain; just came around a lit all the candles at the tables. :lol:

I think the rivalry aspect is huge in this game. If we were playing a different team in the same situation as Sac even with inclement weather, the Ags would be a multi score favorite... Against the Hornets, I don't know. These teams don't like each other even in the slightest and that can take a squad to a different level.

What gives me confidence is that the better team has won the causeway for many years. Maybe 2010 was the last big surprise…and we both finished 6-5!
