Turning east after leaving Seattle, the men’s team heads for Moscow to play Big Sky foe Idaho. ESPN has the Aggies favored by 4,5 points. The Vandals are 1-0 after hammering NAIA Northwest University yesterday 94-60. Idaho is coming off a poor 11-21 (5-13) season. Their frontcourt from last year appears to be intact with their leading rebounder, 6’ 9” Julius Mims having pulled won an average of 7,1 last year. He was also their second leading scorer, 11.1 ppg. Compared to Washington their size is a much better match up with the Aggies since Mims is their tallest player. Hard to say much about the backcourt at this point since they lost their two starting guards. A wild guess is that UCD has them outclassed in that area. The game will be televised on ESPN+.

The Aggies have not fared well historically against the Vandals:

    Series History

The Vandals carry a 7-1 overall record and 4-0 at home against Davis. The Aggies earned their lone victory over Idaho with a 65-64 win at the Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. on Nov. 14, 2019.

But since 2016, the Aggies are undefeated against Idaho.

Over the years all our games feel like big letdowns against Idaho, including the NCAA tournament team which lost at Idaho early in the season. Hopefully we come out strong tonight. Maybe we get some healthy bodies back

I liked our fight against UW especially given their size advantage. We looked ragged at times but I thought that, overall, we showed a lot of potential. Hopefully, things will go smoother tonight and we'll improve our 3 point shooting.

TY made a statement against the Huskies since he scored nearly half of our points against them. So he's most definitely going to be the focus of our opponents' defenses. We'll need to get some solid offensive output from a couple of other players to help take some pressure off him.

It's very apparent that Les has built a team with a defense first focus, which isn't all that surprising, and I thought our defense was physical and tough in the opener. Great defense will keep us in games when the ball isn't finding the net for us.

    Go Ags!

Defense suddenly falling apart as Ags fall behind by 7.

Rough start even on D. Ags are playing out of control. They need to settle down.

Really poor defense by the Aggies...not stopping the dribble drive and not rotating to the 3 point shooter...

Ags just can’t get the 3s to drop

Good time out by Coach Les to fix the holes in the defense.

Oh how we are missing Pepper's 3 point shooting so far this year...

    Where’s the defense? Sloppy play.

Where's the offense? Only 2 assists in 14 minutes and 7 turnovers. Players are not executing. Sloppy passing. Poor shot selection.

40-37 Idaho at the half. I don't think Les is going to be pleased with the Aggie defense especially our perimeter defense. Idaho is 9-16 for 56% from 3.

Yeah that was a rough first half. Settled down a bit once TY got hot. Defense giving up way too many open 3s. After all that, though, only down 3 at half.

I thought the team made some nice adjustments toward the end of the half. The matchup zone caused problems for the Vandals. I don't think poor defense was responsible for the end of half scores by Idaho. They made 9 of 16 from 3, accounting for 67.5% of their scoring. Most times, teams cool after in the second half. The Aggies just have to stick to the way they played toward the end of the half.

They are shooting 56% from 3. That’s absurd. Not bad D, just a team that hasn’t missed.

I’m not worried about D or rebounding. What I am concerned about is that we look OUT OF CONTROL on offense. No one is doing anything productive and then eventually TY needs to do something absurd to score.

It’s not sustainable. He needs help. Other player need to go to the basket and make moves with conviction, make cuts that matter, and slow down.

Most of the offense is coming from TY again. He has 15 and Tamba is next with only 6. We can't just live and die by TY...

Spot on observation. Last year we had Pepper and TY carrying the bulk of the scoring but, so far this year, no one else but TY has really showed a good scoring punch.

I agree that the offense was ragged the first 8 minutes or so, but they really did settle down, committing no turnovers after starting with 7. On the other hand, I agree that some TY needs help on the scoring. I thought Daughtery was supposed to be good shooter but he hasn't found the range yet. Rocak and Lose need to look to score. They have only one field goal attempt between them.

We will not win this game if we don't start defending the perimeter. Idaho can't miss from 3 because we aren't making them take difficult shots.

I don't think the D has been that bad. They've forced 16 turnovers and have 8 steals. Idaho has been able to make 3s. Good offense always beats good defense.

Plus the Aggies have guarded the foul shooting very well, holding Idaho to 56.5%! :)

Agreed. Our offense is called weave at the top until 12 seconds are left on the shot clock and get the ball to TY.

A nice win, albeit sloppy at times. TY still carried most of the offensive load, but Tamba (!) got 17 and the rest of the starters contributed 20. Note that the Muscovites only got 9 3 pt. attempts in the second half and hit 4, compared to 9 for 16 ihn the first period. The guys did a good job especially of guarding Idaho's Mers, #2. I liked the guy doing the color commentary for Idaho. He was relatively unbiased and knew what he was talking about, made some nice observations.
