We ocassionally added extra bleachers at Toomey, esp after end zone bleachers started to fail.

Undergrad? Was that the 24 hour library study room?

I thought the undergrad was the junior burger at the Grad :).

The Undergrad reading room was Shields Library basement open 24 / 7 with large long tables, stark interior. Internal stairwell locked up at night. I believe we called it the Undergrad... packed beginning of Finals Week.

Was that different from the 24 hour reading room which was there circa late 00's when I was there.

I believe there is now a much smaller reading room which faces towards the Quad, seats a few dozen?

The big expansion of Shields Library took away the basement area and created a new unmet undergrad need. I hear local coffee shops are packed during finals.

It has higher capacity than that but yes, the one I know is a side annex facing the quad and I don't think it is connected to other areas but I cant remember.

sounds to me like they need to schedule library downtime for the floors to be buffed and waxed during home games or something.

    Now:
    UCLA 1-4
    USC 1-4
    Stanford 1-3
    Cal 0-4
    Arizona 1-3
    Utah 1-2
Only Oregon and Colorado have winning records in conference.

Only three of the ten former Pac-12 teams won this weekend; Oregon, UCLA and Colorado, and Colorado's win was over former Pac-12 opponent Arizona.

According to John Canzano, Grand Canyon University skipped a WCC AD meeting, and is being courted by the Mountain West.

A recent member of the WCC, their entry fee was $16 Million. They forfeit that if they jump to the MW, which has their own entry fee. Reportedly, GCU wants to eventually join the Pac-12.

Canzano reports the Pac-12 still in search of one all-sports school.

That's pretty ridiculous. Grand Canyon seems to have no idea what to do. They were NAIA, Division I, down to Division II, then they wanted to be NAIA again but couldn't because they weren't a non-profit entity. So back to D-II and then D-I again. I believe they were independent for awhile, then the WAC, the WCC and now the MWC maybe. Lunacy.

I don't really see the MWC being very lucrative for them because they don't have a football team. Their big sports seem to be men's bball and baseball.

it’s a weird place. For-profit Christian school with enrollment of around 100,000 (mostly online). Fined nearly $40M about a year ago by the government for deceptive pricing of advanced degrees. They did bring a bunch of fans to their NCAA basketball tourney games last - I believe the school foot the bill.

That will be by far the toughest environment the basketball team plays in this year (Hawaii a runner-up)

I read several days ago that tthe Mountain West wanted Grand Canyon University, because they made the Division I National Championships in Men's Basketball three times.

I wonder if the MWC 5 are having a bit of buyer’s remorse?

‘So tell me about this new Pac12 conference we’re gonna pay big bucks to get into? Who else is in it?

‘Well, uh, you’ve got Oregon St and Washingtion St.’

    ‘Yeah, who else?’

‘Well, uh, besides us? There’s 4 other MWC schools’

‘Okay, hmmmm….and the others? You do need at least one more.’

‘Yeah, uh, well there’s a couple FCS schools that want to join!!’

SACRAMENTO -- The Sac 12 Executive Committee announced new research that shows the value of the Sacramento media market and economy as a benefit as part of their push to join the Pac-12.

The study underscores Sacramento's potential to significantly enhance the Pac-12's footprint, highlighting its would-be position as the second-largest designated market area and the second-largest economy among conference markets.

The report reveals that the Sacramento market would trail only Denver and would boast a median household income of $92,000. In terms of economic strength, Sacramento's real GDP reached $98.9 billion in 2022, surpassing Fresno by 118%. The city has also experienced the highest population growth of any Pac-12 city since 2020.

"The findings of this study, along with our increased fundraising goals, demonstrate that Sacramento State is poised for Pac-12 membership," Sac 12 co-chair Josh Wood said.

The Sac 12 committee also announced a new goal for Name, Image and Likeness funds after surpassing the first $50 million goal by $7 million in six weeks due to 20 donors with ties to Sacramento State or the Sacramento region. Now, the group has its sights set on raising $75 million in NIL funds.

The hope, according to Wood, is the support given to Sacramento State athletes translates to the university's football stadium fundraising goals.

I don’t think we’ll see any further developments until the Pac secures a media deal. Seems like everything is on the come. They’ve got some good teams from the MW. Will be interesting to see who they add. Wazzu is ranked 22 and the Donks are at 15 in this week’s football rankings. Meanwhile, the guys across the causeway continue their telethon. This is an education on realignment.
