I am LOVING Dan Hawkins. You can tell this guy really wants to take Aggie football to the next level. His energy, passion, and love for the game is amazing.
When Gould was hired, he admitted he had never set foot on campus before. Hawk is wearing his jersey and letterman jacket during the press conference. Aggie Pride is back!
Well we've all been wondering how to get alumni to care about Aggie football again... this'll do. Can't wait to see a creative offense. It's been a while
Wow..energetic, passionate, spontaneous, progressive...Hawk will bring a big dose of momentum to the program that's for sure! He's opinionated and confident and isn't afraid to "tell like he sees it."
He can be fiery and I'm sure he'll ruffle some feathers at times along the way when his passion gets the better of him, but I think he just might be the jolt of energy we need to break out of the lethargy and shake up the status quo in order to get Aggie football back on the fast track to national significance once again.
I just asked some of my students what they thought of his idea to fill the stands back up with students, that is, to shoot T shirts with cash into the stands. They laughed, and said all that is needed is to start winning games. One of my seniors said the last game he went to was 2 years ago and the Aggies got destroyed. It just wasn't fun. The fun is going to start again. Not sure we will have a winning season next year, but I am confident that the team will be prepared for each game, and that the games will be managed properly - time clock management, 2 minute management, and not settling for a FG when we need a TD.
This is great news. I can remember making him sandwiches at the Coffee House when he was a student. The next time I saw him after he left Davis was on the sidelines while his BSU teams beat the daylights out of Idaho. The Boise fans loved him, and he did a great job there, just like Peterson.
I still think it's an uphill battle. The Administration will have to come through with facility improvements; I don't know how much admission standards should change. If we do make changes, then we had better have proper academic support for students. I hope Blue makes this happen.
I think that '82 team was the best Aggie team I ever saw, and it's great to have one of those guys running our team now.
