The Ags put up a valiant battle but fell to Indiana in 4 sets 3-1 (16-25, 33-31, 16-25 and 25-27). The Aggies were up big in the 4th set at 20-14 but couldn't close it out and send the match into a 5th set. The Hoosiers roared back from the 20-14 deficit to take the next 13 of 18 points and survived two Aggie set points to win to take the 4th set 27-25 and win the match.
The Aggies continue to play well with wins over St Mary's 3-1 and Sac State 3-1. They now stand at 4-2 for the year with their only loses being to two, tough midwest teams: Purdue and Indiana. Next up: the Ags travel to Seattle for matches with Washington State on Saturday, 9/14 and Washington on Sunday, 9/15. Go Ags!
The Aggies lost a 5 set heartbreaker against Washington State in Seattle this evening 16-25, 25-14,
25-23, 14-25 and 13-15. They continue their tough schedule against Washington tomorrow.
The Aggies host UCLA on Thursday, September 19, at 6 pm at the University Credit Union Center. The Ags would love to upset the Bruins as they head into conference play at Long Beach the following week.
The Aggies pulled a major upset this evening by beating UCLA 3-1 (26-24, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-22) in front a a big, boisterous crowd at the University Credit Union Center. Overall the Aggies now stand at
5-4 after completing their very tough non-conference schedule that included #6 Purdue, Indiana, Kansas State, Washington State, Washington, UMBC and UCLA.
The Ags will now begin conference play at on Thursday vs Long Beach and Saturday vs UC San Diego. Both games are at 6 pm at the University Credit Union Center.
I think it goes to show what bringing in schools like UCLA and others in any sport will increase attendance dramatically. I know that it's difficult to get the bigger name programs to come here to play though. Heck, I remember Jim Les saying that trying to get schools like St Mary's and USF on the schedule is difficult even if it's a road game.
The Ags have gone 5-1 in conference play since their win over UCLA and they are now 10-5 overall. They are also currently tied for first place in the Big West standings. Yesterday they beat Hawai'i 3-1 in Hawai'i. It was the first time the Ags have beaten the Rainbow Wahine since 2013. The Ags are a very good volleyball team.
The first place Aggies just won their 9th straight conference match by sweeping Fullerton 3-0. They are currently 14-5 overall and 9-1 in the conference. They play 3 more conference games on the road before finishing with 5 conference games at home.
The AGS are now back in 1st place in the conference. Looking at the NCAA RPI the Ags are 81st in the country out of 346; pretty high. Here are some of the other schools in the conference based on the RPI, Hawaii- 50 Cal Poly-71st and Long Beach 73. I believe Hawaii is ranked high because of their home record and the challenges schools face competing there.
Dan Connors and the team should be very proud of such a tremendous season.
I will work on getting to their home game this Sunday at 1:00 against CSUB.
