Not a football expert but really disliking the halfback handoffs out of shotgun up the middle.
a) hasn't worked all game
b) didn't work particularly well when Plough was here last time
c) primary goal of this game is for LL to walk away healthy
We had these stretches in 2018 and 19 too where we went away from the quick passing game and just kinda stalled. I understand needing to keep the defense on their toes and that we're not expecting Hastings to throw bombs every other play, but the short/mid passing game was working
I think with some more coordination of pass protection and playing FCS opponents instead of FBS will be a good change. I do wonder why there were no swing passes to Lan. He did not get many chances in the open field.
My hope for this game was simply that it looked like a football game, and mostly it did.
Davis’ offense seemed less varied than in years past. They don’t have the blocking to run in running situations against Cal and they don’t feature fly sweeps anymore, so most runs are between the tackles, which they couldn’t block. Missing also were the screens they used to run.
Kickers had a bad day, after bringing in kickers to make the position competitive, the worst kicking i can recall.
