2018 was 6 years ago - all these kids remember is the blizzard playoff game from Missoula last December...and likely the December before that...on ESPN2
Treynor’s father Cameron played in the NFL, mom was a two sport player at University of Washington and a strength and conditioning coach. Brother is an redshirt freshman offensive lineman with U. of Washington.
That makes two 3 star QB commits for 2025 with fathers who played in NFL.
5 QBs in the last 2 recruiting classes seems like... a lot? I mean, this has to mean that Plough thought the crew we had was unsatisfactory to a degree.
I see we only had one QB recruit in the three years prior to these two. I believe David Rasor was the only QB not a walk on in those recruiting classes and they have had him for only one season.
Having a large group of good QBs is not a bad problem to have. It's no secret that I think we need to be fielding a more complete QB and the best way to do that is by getting more guys in to compete.
With 6 three star QBs, they will have the raw material to develop some good QBs. They’ll have three of them on this Fall’s team. I guess it will be a team effort coaching these guys.
How did Rasor, who wears, #2 look in the Spring?. I’m encouraged that #2 was the second QB to play, so perhaps second on the depth chart.
If there are that many QBs lined up, might one drop out?
I asked a former coach about offers. Say a team gets loaded up on position A, couldn't other existing offers for position A be withdrawn? The coach said no, but his explanation wasn't convincing.
That doesn't sound right. A team has to make more offers than they have room as many prospects don't accept the offers. So, I always thought that was the pressure applied to prospects. For example, we made 5 offers on a position but only have 3 scholarships available so the prospects need to hurry up and accept or take the risk that all scholarships are now spoken for.
Agreed. As QB is the most important on a team, healthy competition and a good backup or two to account for possible injuries is desirable. This year’s roster shows 6 QBs (Hastings last year but no other seniors). Seems a bit heavy. At other institutions there may be multiple portal moves at QB, but that is not normal at UCD unless a grad transfer.
Hasting is here for his sixth year, Harper his fifth, and Harper has had almost no playing time.
Ingrassia is a walk-on, and I’m guessing not on scholarship. Rasor has been here one season, and Wrighster and Pinnick are incoming freshmen.
Numerically heavy due to COVID extra year but functionally light, in that there is no experienced backup. That reflects no QB scholarship recruits from 2021 & 2022
Doss was 6'3", taller and more athletic than our typical WR. Sleeper due to a missed junior year in HS?
Maier had 2 years experience, blew up in year one at LBCC, and we snatched him early.
DC Tucker brought in a few players from his JC. On tape, it looked like we just missed a gem - he had a special teams speedster that was gonna enroll here before he got a last minute FBS offer. That appeared to have been a pivotal loss.
It seems like the new performance facility and the business major are a big help.
I haven't seen a timed speed anywhere, but he put up gaudy numbers as a junior; 137 tackles, 20 TFLs, 6 sacks in 12 games. I don't think pure foot speed is the most important trait in a LB, but it looks like he has a nose for tackling the guy with the ball which is certainly important.
