The 2023-24 basketball season is almost here and the Aggies have been picked to finish third in the Big West Coaches Poll and two players, Evanne Turner and Tova Sabel, have been selected to the All Big West Pre-season First Team.
The Ags open the season on Sunday, October 29th at home with an exhibition game against Cal Poly Humboldt at 2 pm followed by their regular season home opener versus the Academy of Art on Monday, November 6th at 11 am.
Yeah, I thought the same thing. Hopefully Tova is a little more consistent this year. Seemed like she’d go through some insanely hot stretches, followed by ice cold periods.
Aggies defeat Humboldt in a pre-season exhibition matchup, 101-50. Four starters in double figures, plus Epps and Svanholm. Almost the entire team got double digit minutes.
So just judging by the box score, seems like the same contributors as last year’s very average team. I guess we hope for growth from our returners plus a healthy Svanholm.
True, Shine should at least add some depth. I see that Fitzgerald (transfer from Colorado) didn't get into the game. I assume it's an injury...hopefully not too bad. She'll add some depth inside also.
The box score shows that Jen substituted freely and a lot of the players got some playing time in both halves. However, I saw that Sabel, who started the game, didn't play at all in the final 2 quarters whereas the other starters did. I hope she didn't get injured.
Anyone going to the Men's & Women's Basketball Meet & Greet Event with the players and the coaches at the El Macero Country Club from 5:30 - 7:00 pm tonight?
Wife and i will be. We always enjoy it. They do this one a little different than football, maybe bc there are fewer players. Its enjoyable to hear each player introduce themselves and learn something about them. But I’m never lucky on the raffle, lol.
Give a report back on what the coaches have to say. I'm looking forward to basketball getting underway next week. Maybe this is your year to get lucky with the raffle!
It was fun. I had a nice visit with Coach Les and a few of the players. It was a packed house, more people than what I’ve seen for football. The reoccurring theme for both teams was bringing home a championship. All the student athletes were impressive. It’s obvious there is good chemistry on both teams.
